Hello all,
thankfully I'm still alive. Yesterday we learned leave no trace techniques (how to poop in the wild) and went on a day hike, and today I registered for classes. Experiential education and Philosophy, Global Political Ecology, and Dance Improvisation. Saturday we leave, this is a rare window of time now when I can actually get back to my house. Yesterday we did a group bonding exercise and I had to fight back tears. I'm a little weirded out still, but mostly these hippies are very sweet people. Different people in my orientation group bring out different things in my personality. Especially Tyler, or "Tip" , 21, this unbelievably judgmental jock from Ohio. He represents for me all the things I hate about men and I don't trust him when he's nice to me. I know I probably should, but its really hard for me to think about him as actually wanting to be friendly. He seems driven by one thing and one thing only, and don't make me name it. Then there's David, the son of a sailor, who is 19 but pretentious enough to act like he's thirty. He's traveled all around India and South America I think. Then there's Lauren who's also 19 who is sweet and outspoken, but also judgemental. Then there's emily who's 21 and traveled around with Cirque du Soleil for a while. And Nick, who went through rehab. These kids know way more about drugs than I do but all seem to have something to offer.
First we go to the Superstition mountains.
