T1 convention report #4

May 04, 2009 21:22

Sunday afternoon, 2 p.m.

We made convention history. Write it down. Mark it. Remember. We hope with everything for more 'Chuck' because it's gone from a good series to a GREAT series. NBC has television history and an awesome hit right in their hands. However, what Zach Levi and several hundred people did in Birmingham will be talked about twenty, thirty years from now.

Because this was the day when Zach led us out of the convention in a massed willing walk-out to the nearby Subway. This is how much faith [mostly] European viewers have in him, in the rest of the cast and in 'Chuck'. Most of us would do the same [and more] for 'Firefly'. Yes, 'Chuck' is in an entirely different genre, but it's touching that kind of awesome at the end of season 2. 'Chuck' itself has the potential to be regarded as a classic serial in years to come. At the moment, its fate stands poised on a knife edge.

So, there we were; walking in the sunshine and into the nearby Mall [well, it's somewhat like a Mall] to the nearest Subway. After making a vocal report for the 'Chuck' pod cast folk, shooting video and taking pictures, I got in line. By this time, Zach was behind the counter, wearing plastic gloves and helping dispense subs! I had a meatball marinara meal. Zach added lettuce, peppers and sweetcorn. The sub was delicious. I still have the wrappers if anyone wants them!!!

Sunday afternoon & evening

I had steward duty again in the afternoon. Adam spent much of the three hours standing and continuing to flex his shoulders. I'd done a VERY quick change into 'Xena' mode by this time. I was asked to help Jimmy out around the room as he got his autographs. I found out that Jimmy had quite inadvertently scarred all the guests for life during his photo shoot by accidentally catching his kilt and proving once and for all that Scottish men really don't wear knickers underneath! He gave Adam a mini bottle of a particularly nice single malt and a tiny copy of Burns poetry. This gift was repeated to Zach and Summer.

Then it was on to the closing ceremony after getting my stuff autographed. Jonathan was drawing his charity raffle and there were urges all around for him to speed it up! Eventually, he was done and we said goodbye to the guests. Lyn had evidently shared with Adam and Mark that she's going through a bit of a tough time at the moment. Adam gave her a supportive 'pep' talk, put his arm around her and did more for her in a minute or two than all the rest of her friends combined. And that's why we love him. He made the difference. I don't think Lyn's come down yet! I was so touched and impressed that I went up to him and found myself in a half hug and went to kiss him on the cheek. My kiss landed on his jawline [not surprising since I'm a good six inches shorter than him!]. He said 'God bless'. I said, 'You too!' and to my surprise he pulled me back in for another kiss on the cheek!

Well, after that, both Lyn and I thought we were done with the weekend's pleasures. However, the next morning, when Lyn and I checked out of our room, there was Adam getting into the lift ahead of us! He held the door, so we thanked him. He had his baseball cap low down and was wearing shades. Either he hadn't slept well, or maybe he'd had a fair helping of alcohol, or maybe jet lag was catching up with him. Wish I could have given him some TLC [queue's over there!!!]. He said goodbye; we said we were looking forward to the next time and that was that.

One of the best weekends EVER!
