I arrived at the convention by car with a friend. The two of us journeying that way was cheaper than travelling by coach. Plus, I enjoy driving. We found the hotel without too much fuss and checked in. I unpacked with my roomie [Lyn] and went back to the reg desk. Convention packs were picked up. Then Lyn and I walked to the bar. A friend of mine quietly pointed Adam out across the bar. He was sitting there with Zach, just having a chat. I met Amy for the first time and and we hugged, then I quietly directed her to Adam's presence! I walked over to the bar to get drinks and passed Lyn's onto her. Adam and Zach had been joined by Mark Sheppard and Georges Jeanty. Lyn went across fairly quickly and joined the group, then I trailed behind her, quite happy [well, fairly happy!] to move on if it was not appropriate to stay. On the contrary, Adam saw me, warmly greeted me by name and invited me to sit down. I duly sat near him on the big sofa.
After that, we all spent a good 20 minutes or so talking about all sorts of things, including the distinctive local 'Brummie' accent. I also told Adam about my local 'Wi-fry' protesters who had taken a distinctly non-scientific and subjective view of the local town council installing a Wi-fi hotspot in town. Some of them had even managed to get 'ill' some months before the Wi-fi came on line, which was clever of them! He rolled his eyes in understanding! I also let Zach in on the difference between Amercan and British audiences :-). I attempted to encourage him to play the double entendre card if he wished! In due course, Adam and Zach moved off with their bags and we went on to other things. Both Lyn and I felt we'd just had our conventions made just by that encounter! Adam, Zach and Mark are all easy to get along with, very amenable and personable with [at least in Adam and Mark's case] a delightfully wicked sense of humour.
