JD couldn't sleep. It had happened quite suddenly and not wanting to alarm Perry hadn't said anything about it. He just found himself night after night lying awake in his lovers arms, staring off into the darkness of Cox's apartment.
"Newbie?" A gruff voice asked startling JD from his thoughts.
"Hmm?" He said softly. Nuzzling into the crook of Perry's neck.
Perry shifted, pulling his right arm towards his face to wipe away the sleepiness from his eyes.
"Now JD you know I don't actually engage you in annoying me often, especially this late in the night so what is it? You haven't slept in days."
JD was caught of guard. He hadn't thought Perry had noticed.
"How did you know?"
"Do I look like an idiot Sabrina? You've been a walking Zombie these past few weeks, now spit it out for Christ's Sake."
Perry began to grow annoyed when all he heard from the younger doctor was the long inhale of a breath, but he figured getting hostile would only shut him up. And rare as it was he did actually want to know what was wrong with the younger man.
JD knew why he couldn't sleep but revealing it to Perry wasn't something he thought was intelligent. And he'd probably cause a rant and a string of girls names to escape Perry's lips. But the more he thought about it the more he felt it was time. He and Perry had been together for a couple of months now and have known each other for much longer than that and the unexpressed affection he felt for the older man was eating away at him.
JD shifted. Propping himself up with his elbow in order to get a better look at Perry. When there gazes met he took one last shaky breath bracing himself for the disaster that the three words he'd been dying to say would bring.
"I've just been wanting to tell you-" His face flushed uncontrollably and he thanked the heavens that it was probably to dark in Perry's apartment to make out any signs of it. "-that, that I love you," he said softly.
He smiled shyly hoping that the beating he just asked for wouldn't be to harsh, but to his disbelief Perry didn't turn into the hostile beast he was so sure he would. The older mans eyes just barely seemed to gleam in the soft moonlight creeping in from the window.
"JD." Perry said softly. Pulling him down to rest against his bare shoulder again, "Just go to sleep." He gently kissed JD's forehead and pulled him tighter against his body. Not uttering another word but letting the younger man know his answer through his actions.
After a few moments JD was asleep for the first time in weeks. A soft smile still playing across the young doctors lips as held tightly in his grip was an also very tired and sleeping Perry Cox.
