Tooi no kuni no naka ni… Aherm! Anyway, I was reading a review of a maxi-single, and it was fairly well-written, but one thing about it REALLY irked me. The reviewer said "while some songs fail to make the transition from tv-size to full-size well…." Doesn't anyone remember when songs were written full-length, and then edited in order to be used as TV/OAV/Movie/Radio/CD Drama songs? And when exactly did it switch to being the other way around? I can understand the marketing standpoint of forcing people to buy singles (or, nowadays, maxi-singles) to get the full-length versions of songs (although that also irks me, as I've ranted about in a previous entry), but why only write half of a song, and then try to extend it? It's beyond me; if you're going to write a song, then write it all at once. Don't try to write something that would sound good for 90 seconds, and then later try to change it. I know it can be done; look at insert and image songs. Those come out for virtually every anime made these days, and are almost always full-length only without sounding "extended."
