Summer

Summer's almost over, but it's been a good year. Had lots of board game days with friends (sometimes 15+ people!) and have flown several simulations now on our Artemis setup in the garage. Had several good stargazing nights, makes me want to make the move to bigger glass. (Got my eye on a 12" Dobsonian at the local shop!) Pretty quiet year so ( Read more... )

Which sorts of games? ... I'd love to arrange such events, but friends here are scattered too far and wide (or have kids, which gets complicated). I've been thinking of my 'scopes that've been dormant since 2011. Maybe this fall I can work up the motivation to stay late at work. I think there's a couple of good, dark ball fields that aren't used much and the location is Bortle scale 4.5 or better.

Not quite in town for me, but 3-scale skies are about 45 min away, and worth the trip. (Not like being out in the middle of Montana, though; that was freaking incredible. And spooky.)

Games we've played recently:
-Twilight Imperium (3 ed.)
-Die Macher
-Terra Mystica
-Battlestar Galactica (all expansions)
-Railways of the World
-Formula D
-Archipelago
-Concordia
-Cosmic Encounter

I still want to get back into a tabletop RPG game; it's been too long. :(

I have a Coulter Optical Odyssey I I'd be willing to give you, if we could figure out how to get it to you. :)

The shipping would cost as much as the scope! Thanks for the offer, though. /^|..|^\ I'm really looking into a GoTo model for the ease of use and instant gratification. ;)

My C6 had a GoTo feature... I didn't miss it when the RA drive died and never got it repaired.

I actually enjoy star-hopping so much more. There's reward to it that way. Plus, it's fun to hop and find rarely visited sights like double stars or odd little DSOs along the way.

My commute would be about the same sort of drive (35-minutes one way), though Bortle 4.5-ish or so would be some of the darkest skies I've been beneath. For me, it's just a matter of motivation, er, or lack thereof.

I'm unfamiliar with any of those games. Then, it's been ages since I've played much of any. Which tabletop RPGs are popular these days?

Pathfinder is really growing in popularity. There's always D&D (pick an edition), and there's actually a semi-active Traveller group in the area. If I could drum up enough interest, I'd be running Pathfinder, but so far it's fizzled. :(
