I was at Buster's, a realitivly nice restaurant in Flag, with my Grandmother. She asked about my photography, whether i was still into it. I snikered. Luckily, i took my portfolio from Photo 285 with me because i wanted to show her, which i immediately with drew from my backpack. She recently had laser surgery done on her eyes, so she said she could now read even very fine print, which i was happy about because she could appreciate my photo's more fully.
She was flipping through them and when she finished she said, "Well, i think you're ready". i asked her what she meant.
My great grandfather, who was an excentric bipolar business man from the south and a direct decendent of Brittish noblety, never skimped on quality. In the late thirties he bought himself a Leica and a slew of lenses to go along with it. Let me explain more fully what the significance of a Leica is. They are *the* top of the line 35mm camera's in the world. All famous photojournalists and consquently photographers had a Leica. Many many very famous photo's were taken with them; pretty much any non Ansel Adams (who did own one for portrait work) black and white photograph you can think of that is prominant was taken with them. This get up of my Great Grandfathers probably retails for about $10,000 now. My grandmother inherited it, and decided to keep this cadillac of photography secret so that none of her daughters would want it, because it would just be pawned more than likely due to the fact none of them could use it. She decided today to give it to me.
I really cannot express how happy i am about this, or how surprised. And if you think for one moment that i am simplely going to put it in a safe deposit box, you can think again. I am going to use this baby to its full potential. I have been dreaming about owning a camera that the great masters had forever. I am a very lucky boy. :')
