this was emailed to me by my mom about my dog
this is the message billy sent me at work after talking to the vet:
so the doctor said that the news is not so good. buddy has an aggressive tumor. something called a "mass tumor" and it has a high chance of spreading internally. at the moment we have two options. the first is to take him in to see if it has spread internally and if not to do aggressive invasive surgery which would in the end result in amputation. that would cost anywhere from $2,500-$5,000 the second of which is chemotherapy which costs 200-300 per visit. the chemo would shrink the tumor and the infection. some dogs take better to it than others the effects lasting more than six months.others no more than 2 months. the doctor said if you had any more questions to give him a call.
then i spoke to his assistant this afternoon, as the doctor himself was in surgery;
she told me the best course of action at this time for buddy is chemo...that the thought of "invasive surgery" and "radical radiation" would not be beneficial to his health...they are going to start him on benadryl and pepcid ac for now, then monday he will begin a regime of
pretizone once every 2-3 weeks...the doctor went on to explain that the surgery and the radiation would not prolong his life nor would it be the best thing for him...they are, of course, quite concerned as to how he will take to the medication and they will be monitoring him continually...
like all of you, i am devastated...
there's not really a whole lot more i can say for now...
he's going to a place called Bay Area Veternarian Services and they are wonderful people...truly wonderful...
prayers/goodwishes/good thoughts/positive feelings/etc... are always welcome...
love,
janina
