we made it to daytona!
it took us a little under 2 full days. it took a while to get out of atlanta, but once we did we were only on an onramp for no longer than an hour. met a lotta cool ass people. mostly older. got a ride from an RV, but also a ride from a broken down '82 spraypainted "camero" that only had 2 seats in the back (three of us). it had a misfits skull spraypainted on the hood, which was indeed amazing. as well as a middle finger thats states "fuck you" below it on ther driver side door.we almost got murdered in macon (ill go into details when we get back, but that shit was fucked). and a bum told us that he was a rat and that i was going to die a horrible death in 5 minutes, chanting "die motherfucker". kinda scary. it took about 3 hours to get out of macon the next morning, but we finally did in the back of a cabbage truck. we made it to jacksonville last night. after a 10 mile hike along the interstate we concluded the evening with dumpstering bread from a food lion, and passing out from exhaustion behind a car wash. woke up to the sun rising, only to find all our bags and shoes soaked from dew. so todays hitchhiking included sandals. walking along the interstate with a 30 lb. bag on zero sleep isnt the most exciting activity w/o efficient shoes. it took a little to get out of jacksonville, so after lifting a sharpie we made two signs. one being our plea: "SOUTH heading home for easter" and for the traffic too busy to pick us up, we had graham convineitly located 100 ft down the ramp holding a sign saying "feeling guilty?". cop stopped by to wish us luck. we eventually got a ride, and dumped off 2 miles later, making us wish we had passed it up. we got to an area, which we were sure we'd be stranded for at a minimum of a few hours. and within minutes 2 kids in the "camero" i explained pulled over and took us the rest of the way to daytona. we explored the beach, and lifted a few snacks from the local unequipped winn-dixie. were now staying at some vegan/sXe kids house. he is the coolest 30 year old i know (uncle billy).
now to the ocean...
