the rules. open your music player and/or put your ipod on shuffle. write down the first 20 songs and tell us about them! you can skip multiple appearances of the same artist, but make sure to leave the embarassing ones in.
Ok I just have to say that I am shocked my Ipod didn't blow up after this play list.
1)Woman Like a Man- Damien Rice
I really like Damien Rice's voice and his lyrics and I love this song because it lets me say "You wanna get burned You wanna get turned You wanna get fucked inside out " when I sing along and it makes me feel a little naughty.
2)Since you've been Gone- Kelly Clarkson
Ok don't judge but I like a lot of Kelly Clarkson's songs. I think she's got some major pipes on her. Plus I like this song because it lets me jump around alone in my room and sing really loudly along.
3)Rebel Yell (live)-Billy Idol
Come on it is Billy Freakin Idol do I really need to say anything else? I love Billy Idol I wanted to marry him for the longest time and then Spike came along and was a younger Billy Idol in my eyes and an actor playing a Vampire so what could be better then that. But Rebel Yell live is really a great song.
4)Imperfectly-Ani Difranco
No I am not a lesbian but I love Ani Difranco like a best friend with issues that I can totally relate to. Imperfectly is one of my favorites of hers I must say because no one is perfect but you can love someone imperfectly "I'm okay if you get me at a good angle and you're okay in the sort of light and we don't look like pages from a magazine but that's all right"
5)Legacy-Dane Cook (Retaliation: Want)
Ok first thing this was awesome that it came up on the shuffle because it is my absolute favorite joke of his. So here it is because I found it so I can share it with the class:
There are some things I have learned in my recent past that I’m excited to share with you tonight, and one thing I’ve realized is that we all want to leave behind a legacy; we all want to be remembered for something. And then I was thinking going, “How can I be remembered?” and then I suddenly realized you can do it on a daily bases, even if it’s one on one with people. For example, the other day, I saw a young boy, and he was eating an ice cream cone, I ran up and I smashed it into his face, I leaned in, I go, “You remember me forever!” and I ran away. Cause you know when he’s 50, he’s gonna be like, “One day a man ran up to me, I did not know this man, he smashed my treat into my eyes. And he pointed and said, ‘You fuckin remember me forever.’” But I did not say fuckin, I did not say that. He added fuckin to make the story more intense and interesting. He deserves to have ice cream smashed in his face, cause he’s a lying 50 year old man. I did NOT say fuckin.
6)Sunday Morning Coming Down-Johnny Cash
Ok I have been reading Cash by Johnny Cash and so I downloaded a shit load of his songs and this is one of them. It is pretty good and by reading the book I can totally see where he is coming from. He was amazing with his lyrics and his voice. And I also love his NIN cover of Hurt more so then I enjoy the real band singing it because you can feel his whole soul behind the lyrics. I can't wait to see Walk the Line..and yes I still consider myself a Johnny Cash fan even though I didn't see that movie in the theater.
7)Rich-Yeah Yeah Yeahs
MTV got me into the Yeah Yeah Yeah's and Karl helped also by buying their cd and letting me burn it. But the song Maps got me good on the MTV movie awards or music awards one of those crazy award shows on MTV one year. It was awesome and I really like this song as well they are all really great.
8)Tiny Dancer- Elton John
Ok so many things go with this song in my head. It reminds me of Amanda because we used to watch Friends like it was our jobs and Pheobe thought the song was called Tony Danza and went "Hold me Closer Tony Danza" and me and Amanda used to joke around about that whenever we heard this song. But it also reminds me of one of the best parts in Almost Famous where everyone on the bus starts singing along to this song. It is great.
9) Somebody Told Me-Richard Cheese (Killers Cover)
I love Richard Cheese in a big way and if I could afford it I would totally hire him to play at my wedding or birthday party or anything because he is the best lounge singer in the history of the world. He covers the best songs and does it in the best way.
10)My Wondering Days are Over-Belle and Sebastian
Marisa got me into Belle and Sebastian. I had heard a few songs of theirs but not much but I really like them and I have to give all the credit to Marisa. Belle and Sebastian got me through some stressful times at my first job after college at TeraHealth. When I would be ready to take one of my brothers guns to work one day all I would have to do is listen to the mellow stylings of Belle and Sebastian and I would feel a lot better.
11)America-Neil Diamond
I have to give all the credit for Neil Diamond to my mother. Just a little something everyone should know about me. I grew up listening to oldies 103 on the radio and my mothers old records and Mickey and Minnie records and the Muppets and Neil Diamond and the Supremes until I want to say I was about 13 when I started to actually listen to the music that was on the radio. I had no idea about most of the popular 80's music until the 80's were over. But that being said I don't regret it at all but that is why I have a strong love for Mr. Diamond I would be playing with my sister and we could hear my mom singing along to Neil in the other room and it was almost comforting. She sang America the most I must say.
12)Death of Glory-The Clash
Ah the Clash I heart the Clash. I wish I could have been more aware of The Clash when I was younger but read the above to know why I wasn't. I fell in love with them when I started listening to them in high school. London Calling is one of my favorite songs and The Guns of Brixton and I'm not Down etc. etc. If I had been born in the 70's I totally would have been a real punk I just know it. With my middle class family good home life it would have been the norm :).
13)One Sweet World-Dave Matthews Band
One of my favorite DMB songs. I will always love Dave Matthews Band I saw them twice. Once in high school and once when I was in college both times with High School friends. I didn't really want to see them the second time because I have issues with seeing bands more then once when there are other bands that I would love to see instead. But this is a really pretty song.
14) Sofkuri's Room-The Push Stars
Ah The Push Stars I saw them live in High School with my friend Amanda she loved them she had heard about them from her teacher who played their song in class because they grew up around our town and his son was best friends with the lead singer. So she got me into them and I really loved them. They have a semi counting crows feel I guess. This song is really sweet and sad but I love it. I highly recommend people looking them up and listening they are pretty great.
15)Wise Up-Aimee Mann
This song is sad but I love it and I started to love it even more when I saw it in the movie Magnolia. Now I am not the greatest fan of Magnolia because depressing movies upset me but there was something about this scene where all the characters where singing along to this song that touched me. Plus I think Aimee Mann is great I love her lyrics and her voice is haunting.
16)Never There-Cake
This is so weird I see like no bands life but this is like the 3rd one I have seen so far in this shuffle. I saw them at a free concert in boston at the Hatch Shell. They were great I think this song was one of their big hits. Not one of my all time favorites but I do still like it.
17)Peace Train-Cat Stevens
Cat Stevens is great I don't care what people say about him now. He will forever remind me of one of the greatest movies of all time Harold and Maude. Considering he did the whole soundtrack for that movie.
18)Reflections-Diana Ross and the Supremes
I love this song. It is really pretty and it used to be the theme song for the TV show China Beach that I think dealt with nurses during the vietnam war. Don't quote me on that one though.
19)D'yer Mak'er-Led Zeppelin
My favorite Led Zeppelin song is Tangerine but this one is pretty good too. My sister was heavily into Zepplelin when she was in Junior High which annoyed the piss out of me because she would play the same songs over and over and over and we shared a room at the time and I was still in elemetry school so I didn't get it. But I have to say they grew on me. So thanks Lisa for playing your Zeppelin loud along with your Steve Miller Band.
20)You don't know how it feels-Tom Petty
Holy crap yet another band I have seen in concert. Tom Petty was great live..from what I remember I was a little wasted at the time but it was still good. I really like this song I really liked the video with the circus people and it always amused me how MTV and VH1 would play the "lets roll another joint" backwards so that it would have no drug reference in it but make Tom Petty sound like he was talking like the devil.
Ok so that is my shuffle don't judge me!!
