Let's face it - in any fandom, you have debates, complete with nerdrage and Godwin's law. (Wiki it if you don't know what that is.) ALL of them. Why this character did that, what it means, who really did it, how long they've done it, etc. You have shippers. You have tributes. You have fanfics. Self-proclaimed (and actual) experts spouting off all manner of facts, statistics, and "my anime hero is better than yours!!!!eleventy!"
It goes round and round, with new points, counterpoints, fresh comparisons to other series, which ones did it better, on and on. Some of it's interesting. Some if it convinces people to go watch/read the series, some of it turns people off completely, and for some it's a way of life.
Now look at Christianity. That's a debate that has raged for TWO THOUSAND YEARS. We started it all, and we're still doing it.
