Chicago
I've officially settled in now, and living in the city is pretty cool. I moved in December 1 - Alfredo, his uncle, and his dad moved me in. Since I was still taking classes out at CLC, I was staying at his house during the week and coming back here on the weekends. I've been staying here for good (without commuting back to Alfredo's for school) since last Thursday. THIS Thursday is my Biology final, and then I graduate. And then on to DePaul on January 5.
My first weekend out here, Alfredo set up my bed and we went to Crobar with Jaime and his friend. The next night, Alfredo and I went to his house and watched the De La Hoya fight in which he got massacred, and a bunch of his buddies and family stopped by.
I started working out again. I've been going to the gym at DePaul, which is pretty sweet. I enjoy the TVs on each separate treadmill and the pool. I already feel less disgusting, and I've only gone three days so far. We went to the Brew and View on Saturday and saw Sex Drive, which was one of the funniest movies of this year.
Then, we did a bar crawl to the two bars in Wrigleyville that we went to when Yoli and Joe were out here. The wait staff at the first bar (the one next to Samah) were plastered, which was hilarious. They gave us free shots and there were delicious burgers for $1. Then, we headed to Fiesta Cantina on our way back to the El. Had to wake Alfredo up when we got to our stop. It was 3 am, and we realized that there is a 24 hour taqueria on the 5 blocks back to my house from the red line, so we stopped in for some steak tacos, horchatam and flan. I bet we'll be utilizing that place a lot more in months to come.
Tomorrow I plan on going to the gym and then heading to the Gene Siskel Film Center for one of the films from the Spanish film festival. Maribel Verdu is in it (from Pan's Labyrinth, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Belle Epoque) so it should be promising.
My roommates are cool - a model/actress named Heather, and a poli sci grad student named Tim. And a kitten named Racecar. Things seem pretty good!
I'm going to New Jersey on Sunday and staying until Friday (December 21 - 26). My sister and niece will be there too, and I haven't seen them in 2 years, so that will be cool. Not sure about New Years plans yet, but our tickets to Cancun are booked for spring break in March. Cancun again! :)
