There are always basic stereotypes used on people in life as in literature. This causes different characters from different stores to have much in common with each other. For example Ralph from the book lord of the flies is very similar to Tyler Durden from movie fight club. The two characters are similar because they are leaders, roll models, and insightful thinkers.
Both characters are very clearly leaders more than followers. For example, Ralph is the leader of the entire tribe of boys stranded on the island. He is an obvious leader form the start and is chosen by the other boys as their leader. This is why he is obviously leader. As for Tyler, He leads a group of full-grown men in his fight club. He makes all the rules in the club and directs all of them. This is one thing that shows his leadership. He also leads Project mayhem. This is a group of people that play mass destruction pranks all over. Him leading this shows that he has major leadership skills.
Tyler and Ralph both are easily roll models to those around them. For Ralph he has the “littluns” or the younger boys on the island, that look up to him. They see him as the major adult figure since they are stranded away from any real ones. This is how he proves roll model to younger people. This doesn’t mean there aren’t others that look up to him also. For example piggy, a boy around the same age, also looks up to Ralph. This proves that Ralph is all out a role model to most of the boys around him.
The last thing that Tyler and Ralph have in common is they are both insightful. Ralph is insightful in many different aspects. For example he comes up with plans for getting of the island, surviving while on the island, and even enjoying their stay while they must be there. This shows, especially for his young twelve-year-old mind, he is very insightful. Tyler even more so is clearly filled with insight. He has many followers that he teaches them things about themselves and ways to change their lives and ways of thinking. This alone shows his insight. He also teaches himself. He is a man with a dull life, boring job, strange compulsive obsessions living alone, the “all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world” who changes to a man with reason for living and excitement in life. This proves he is very much an insightful person.
It is clear that Tyler and Ralph are similar because they are leaders, roll models, and insightful people. These characteristics are the basis of many characters in different literatures, movies, and television shows. Characters staying in one certain stereotypes keep people interested because they are reminded of people in real life that are similar to these people, do to real life stereotypes.
