So the new job is still going mostly okay, except that there is one doctor that throws me under the freaking BUS every time i do something she doesn't like. She seems to do that to anyone though... but it still doesn't make me feel any better.
However the other docs are fabulous and fantastically smart and talented, and don't treat me like dirt. I did my first real procedure with one the other day, a bone marrow aspirate (which traditionally has been a barbaric painful process for the patient and the other docs i've done it with) and i swear to god, it was the easiest, fastest bone marrow aspirate i have ever seen. It was done in 5 seconds. And i'm not saying the patient wasn't sore afterwards, but it was a clean stick, no digging around in the bone, and the patient had a ton of morphine. We "twilight sedated" it with propofol (michael jackson juice!) and it was down and back up in minutes. IT WAS FUCKING MIRACULOUSLY SMOOTH AND EASY. I am so impressed by this doctor. SO IMPRESSED.
So other than that one person that makes me feel like a douche, everyone else i work with is okay and things seem to be going smoothly and i'm not pissing too many people off. It's not killing me to be there. And i've been picking up hours here and there at the mall job still and it's still fun and okay. It is fun to be paid to stand in a store and mentally make fun of people. And also listen to music.
Aerial News: did my first "ambient" dance/party gig and it was okay. I wish i had done it on hoop or trapeze instead of fabric (or hammock instead of fabric) but alas, fabric it was and it was okay. I still suck at fabric but i can make the five tricks i know look flashy and competent and all i need to do is one dive or drop and the drunken crowd is wowed. I got my paycheck and it was rad. However it was a total black tie party and i felt completely out of place! It's like, HOW DID I END UP HERE? I AM A DIRTBAG PUNK KID FROM NAUGATUCK! The path of life takes some funny twists and turns, that's for sure.
And lastly- i continued to make myself a tatted up dirtbag punk kid, and started work on a 1/2 sleeve yesterday at Lovecraft Tattoo in hamden (with Laura, who is amazing.) It is the biggest work i have ever gotten, and the longest sitting i've ever done (4 hours!) and also the first time i've been tattooed by a woman, which has never been a necessity but is definitely a positive thing. It is such a super nice shop, def. more professional and "art-oriented" than any other shop i've been to. Not that it isn't normal and somewhat acceptable for tattoo shops to have pictures of somewhat-naked tattooed girls everywhere, but it's nice that this one doesn't. It makes me feel less like a fucking object and more like a human being (that happens to like art. on my body.) I am planning on making both my arm tats into 1/2 sleeves that stop at my elbow. We started with the "happy" side (that would be the right side) and we added japanese maple leaves (the fiery orange-red kind) and three japanese lanterns. There are kanji on the lanterns (which is really only for decoration and doesn't have to mean anything, but i looked up symbols that meant "successful" "sky/air" and "dancer", which is the closest i could get to "aerialist". For all i know it may not translate appropriately but at least it kind of maybe means something other than "General Tso's Chicken.") So far we only got the outline done. Apparently my arm is a lot bigger than i thought- it was a lot of freaking work! and i go back to start color on march 14th. I am already loving it, though i am a sore girl today!
