Summary:
Kyuhyun had always loved to have a window by his bed where he could write by. However, as far as he was concerned, he has not written anything constructive for ages. Not since he could never look at the large glass window pane again and not feel the hairs stand at the back of his neck. Not since he begin to spend every waking moment in fear and every sleeping one restless. And definitely not since the indistinguishable eerie sounds visited him resoundingly by the moonlit window almost every night. Maybe he was listening to more than he can hear.

Chapter 20 Epilogue
“Does it…hurt?”
Heechul pushed away the hand that tugged slightly at his right arm, face scrunched up irritably behind sunshades. “Oh no, it doesn’t, not at all. This arm sling is for pure decorative purposes only. Aish, really.”
Kyuhyun withdrew his hand and kept them by his sides awkwardly on the bench, careful not to let them touch the man sitting next to him. The trees swayed gently as guided by the cool breeze in the small park, occasional soft chatters of children and adults filled the air as they found a quiet spot. Birds chirped cheerfully and the sounds of insects chorused almost harmoniously; yet the tense air between the two was almost suffocating Kyuhyun. He turned again to the front and fiddled with the bag of food he had brought along, unsure of how to convey how he felt.
Heechul cleared his throat rather loudly, scratching his right arm with his free one. “Is this all? If you were just going to pass me the kimchi and kimbap from Eunri-ssi, you’re so dead for making me walk all the way here to the park.”
Heechul fidgeted subtly without the other knowing, skilfully stored-away memories popping up annoyingly. It’s been so long, or at least it felt so. He was surprised he had actually forgotten what painful memories stemmed from here. He inhaled and forced them back in again.
Kyuhyun jerked away sideways and blinked in disbelief. “You’re the one who insisted we go out to take a walk in front of Donghae-ssi when we were at your apartment just now! I went all the way up there and down again!”
Heechul smirked and kicked at a small pebble on the ground and leaned his head backwards against the bench, sunshades and shadows shading the soft sunlight streaming through the trees from his face. “You need to lose weight anyway.” He shifted his injured arm slightly, causing Kyuhyun to quieten down guiltily in the midst of retaliation.
A moment of silence followed as a pretty woman in her thirties jogged by. He gulped when she passed their bench. “Is it…really because of me?” he said quietly without looking at the other man.
“What do you think?”
“I…really don’t know what to think. Back at the apartment, I saw Shindong… and you were there as well. It felt like I was sucked into his memories. But one second I was looking at how he…cheated and then the next…I don’t know who I was anymore. I just felt so suffocated by the overwhelming emotions…And then I was falling and you-you pulled me up. W-was that…real?”
Heechul’s lips were pursed but his facial expressions were hard to read behind the sunshades, body still leaning backwards. Kyuhyun hoped sincerely that he didn’t sound like a mad man who had imagined the whole thing up.
A long moment of silence that Kyuhyun didn’t dare to interrupt ensued as the older man sat deep in thought, donning an expression more serious that he’s ever seen. “H-have you fallen asleep?” Kyuhyun asked a while later, unable to contain it in anymore.
Heechul growled slightly at him. “Aish, you brat. Well, you weren’t supposed to see what you saw. I’ve never met anyone else who was capable of that, not even Han-, well…besides me.”
Kyuhyun’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, the bag of food lying forgotten by his feet as another wave of breeze danced past. “What do you mean? So it was real? I really got sucked into Shindong’s memories?” His eyes widened in bewilderment. “How is that even possible?!”
Heechul sucked in a deep breath. “Why are you asking me? I’ve told you before that it’s no fun. If you’re not careful when you deal with them, you’re not just only going to get knocked out like you did.”
Kyuhyun felt cold suddenly. “You mean…I could have really fell and died?” The other man nodded nonchalantly. “It happens. That’s why you’ve got to be careful not to get too absorbed with the emotions and energy they carry. You’re lucky Shindong’s just a confused one, not real sinister. Or else I would have to make you crossover as well.”
He gulped as he slumped back onto the bench, trying not to be too freaked out about it. The coldness seeped through his skin even more when a cold breeze blew over, messing his hair a little. “Is this the end then? Is Shindong really gone?” he muttered after a moment of silence.
“If the system hasn’t changed for the past two years, then yes. I’m positive he’s gone for good. Now that everything’s cleared up between him and that girl. Both sides can be at ease now that the truth is out. Aish, didn’t you hear him too?” Heechul berated.
Kyuhyun nodded slowly with a small smile. “I’m really glad for them, then. I just wanted to hear it from you. Uh, I mean, just to confirm it,” he paused awkwardly. “No, wait. What about me then? I won’t be hearing anymore voices, right?” he asked anxiously.
“Well, about you….Kyuhyun-ssi, do you find it noisy here at the park?”
“Excuse me?” Kyuhyun furrowed his eyebrows curiously. “Well, yeah, a little. There are people who come for walks and jogs with their children and all, you know. You don’t own the park!”
“Really? Oh well…There are quite a few ‘people’ here indeed…You should be able to hear a little girl giggling not far away from here, am I right?”
“Why are you talking like this suddenly? She’s right…there?” Kyuhyun swung around to where he thought the giggling was coming from but his heart nearly stopped when there was no one else around.
Heechul’s lips curved into a smirk, somehow not as sympathetic as he intended it to be. “She’s pretty cute. A pity really, but she doesn’t want to leave here. Not that I have a problem with it. As long as she doesn’t bother me.”
An eerie kiddy song filled the air with a little girl’s voice. Kyuhyun’s eyes darted around with panic as he started shuddering. “Y-you’re not serious. Tell me it’s a sick joke, please.” The song didn’t stop but only grew louder and louder as the other man stood up from the bench, leaving him to shudder by himself. “I don’t make distasteful jokes like these, Kyuhyun-ssi. But that’s one thing off the checklist of things I want to know.” Heechul began to stroll away casually on the pathway leading out of the park.
“W-wait for me!” Kyuhyun hurriedly scrambled up from his seat and quickly ran to catch up with the man in an arm sling, accidently bumping into him.
“Yah! Look where you’re going! You’re not that scared, are you??” Heechul spat at him, rubbing his arm slightly. Kyuhyun shook his head while panting.
“You forgot the food from Eunri-ssi! And I-well…I haven’t said thank you yet,” he said softly, gritting his teeth while handing the bag over. Heechul peered at the bag and then at him for a moment. Awkward silence has never been more awkward.
“Ah, you did well too back at your apartment the other day. If it weren’t for you, Eunri-ssi would’ve received a bigger blow. I guess I can give you some credit, brat.” Heechul said after a while, shaking his head. Kyuhyun felt a flushing warmth coming from nowhere suddenly, hiding it with an awkward shake of head.
A soft chuckle came from Heechul suddenly a moment later as he continued walking, leaving the bewildered younger boy with the bag of food behind on the pavement. “Say, kid…there’s one thing you can do to thank me.” Kyuhyun tilted his head in confusion as they made it out of the park where the streets were visible again.
“Can you ride a bike?”
“What?!”
Heechul stopped in his tracks and dug a free hand into his pocket to fish out a bunch of keys with a pink cat keychain dangling from it, devious smirk paired perfectly with the mischievous glint in his eyes behind the oversized sunglasses.
“Let’s go to the beach.”
Kyuhyun had never been more dumbstruck.
“Come on.”
Unbeknownst to the both of them, a pair of eyes trailed them from behind quietly as they strolled away along the pavement; with Heechul continuing to strut with an air of superiority followed by Kyuhyun protesting loudly behind him while carrying the bag of food.
