Summary:
Kyuhyun had always loved to have a window by his bed where he could write by. However, as far as he was concerned, he has not written anything constructive for ages. Not since he could never look at the large glass window pane again and not feel the hairs stand at the back of his neck. Not since he begin to spend every waking moment in fear and every sleeping one restless.  And definitely not since the indistinguishable eerie sounds visited him resoundingly by the moonlit window almost every night.
Maybe he was listening to more than he can hear.

Chapter 7

Heechul flung his keys to a corner and held a hand out behind himself protectively.

“Who the hell are you and what are you doing here?”

“Hyung?” Donghae skidded to a halt behind the man, balancing with a big bag of beer cans.

Kyuhyun’s finger was still outstretched towards the somewhat familiar face, apparently lost for words. Shoulder-length, chestnut brown hair, fair skin and delicate features like a woman’s. Kyuhyun can’t be too sure if he was indeed a transvestite. But it was him alright.

He didn’t know what hit him but the next thing he heard was his own voice. “You can see him, right?” he screeched.

Realizing how crazy and rude his dongsaeng must’ve looked in front of these people (whom by right, they have barged in on), Yesung quickly got up and pulled the offending arm down, bowing a few times in apology.

“Yah! Who the heck are you? And where are your manners?” Kim Heechul had zero tolerance for ill-mannered people, especially younger ones.

“Heechul-hyung! What’s wrong?” Ryeowook had run out immediately from the kitchen at the loud exchange.” Kyuhyun-ssi?” he called out, confused at why his guest was suddenly behaving so harshly. He looked back and forth between the two groups, dumbfounded. Yesung smiled awkwardly at him, instantly regretting bringing Kyuhyun to the boy’s apartment.

“It’s you, right? I’m sorry but I recognise you. You’re that guy back at the library who was staring at me the other day when it happened!”

“Can you believe this guy?” Heechul scoffed and smirked, “I don’t stare at people, only people stare at me. “ Then he turned to Ryeowook who was hiding partially behind the archway, shoulders curved forward.” Wookie, who is this crazy man?”

Donghae had slipped quietly in from behind Heechul and placed the beer on the coffee table, eyeing them nervously.

“Hyung, calm down. This is Kim Jongwoon-ssi and Cho Kyuhyun-ssi. They’re err, my friends?”Ryeowook shrugged in awkwardness.

Kyuhyun ignored the brief introduction and polite manners. He just needed to know if he was right about it. “Quit playing, I know you saw something too. At the university library? “

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Heechul coughed suddenly. The bad feeling in his chest returned. Actually something about the two of them did seem very familiar. Tousled-hair? Library?

A nauseating feeling bubbled in his chest like boiling water.

It was the boy with the stocky ghost!

Both of them were here now in the same room as they spoke; the latter had just appeared out of nowhere, glassy eyes staring at the flustered one and then connecting to Heechul’s.

Heechul was coughing uncontrollably now, nearly losing his balance but was caught by Donghae and Siwon whose tall frame had suddenly dashed out between them from his room.

“What’s going on? Heechul-hyung!” The ghost’s face contorted weirdly and disappeared altogether.

“Who are these people? Ryeowook!” Siwon ordered loudly; face changing into a maddening one which didn’t quite fit his gentleman demeanour.

“Please leave first, Jongwoon-ssi, Kyuhyun-ssi!” Ryeowook was practically shoving them out of the main door. Yesung was actually surprised at how much strength the puny-looking boy could actually muster.

“Hyung, are you alright?” Siwon and Donghae asked in unison after the eldest boy slouched onto the couch. “Stop it, you two. There’s nothing wrong with me. Donghae, put the beer in the fridge. I want them cold,” Heechul ordered, his cough ceasing.

“Are you sure, hyung?” Donghae creased his brows, grabbing the bag of beer before he went obediently. Heechul nodded through half-lidded eyes.

“I-I’m really sorry, Heechul-hyung. I didn’t know why they were like that. Actually I’m only acquainted to Jongwoon-ssi. I just met Kyuhyun-ssi for the first time today too. Their apartment across the road had a blackout so I thought it wouldn’t be too much trouble if they stayed the night. I really-“

Heechul held up a hand and stopped Ryeowook from his string of apologies. “It’s alright, Wookie. Now can you get me something to eat? Starving here.” He shook his head slightly as the other boy made way into the kitchen, head bowed guiltily. That boy sure trusted too easily but he’d deal with the boy’s gullibility later. He obviously had bigger issues at hand now.

He felt a tug at his own hand.

“Hyung. You saw something, didn’t you?” Heechul felt a cold sweat roll down somewhere on his back but didn’t say anything, refusing to look into the younger man’s intense eyes and expressive eyebrows.

“Hyung, tell me. Now.” Siwon shuffled closer to him on the couch.

He growled softly and looked away. Heechul hated how he was so easy to read by Siwon when he was within range with a spirit. His weakness always unravels itself before he could muster his strength to fight back. He hated that he needed help from Siwon to keep them at bay. There was once he didn’t minded help from someone he had let in too close, but that was too long ago to matter now.

Most of all, he hated that he couldn’t save himself.

Finally he gave up and closed his eyes, head leaning back against the couch.

“The boy is haunted by someone. I saw the ghost, and I think it saw me too,” he said before casually flipping on the TV.

---

The door closed with a hurried creak and slam.

Yesung pulled a reluctant Kyuhyun out hurriedly, bowing apologetically over and over again to Ryeowook who had shut the door behind them.

“Ryeowook-ssi, I’m really, really sorry for what happened back there. Kyuhyunnie didn’t mean it, right Kyu?”He nudged the boy on his left but there was no answer. Yesung figured that his mind was probably either halfway around the universe or still lingering behind the door.

“Sorry Ryeowook-ssi for the trouble. I’m going back now.” Kyuhyun started towards the elevator, trouble-induced lines visibly etched on his face.

“Kyuhyun-ah! Kyu -Aish!” Yesung cried, hands reaching out towards the boy’s retreating figure as the elevator door dinged to a close. Hands lax by his sides, he sighed and turned back to the other person trembling quietly by the door, face still flustered from the incident.

“Ryeowook-ssi…I-“he begin, brows almost connected to form a line, wondering how to explain.

“Y-you don’t have to say anything, Jongwoon-ssi. Sorry I can’t let you stay over anymore. This is actually more of Heechul-hyung’s apartment. Goodnight.” The smaller man bowed quickly and motioned to enter his apartment and close the door.

Yesung was then left staring blankly at the peeling gold paint of the apartment number attached to the door. 1315.

“Ryeowook-ssi… do you think I’m weird?” he muttered quietly, not expecting an answer.

“Yes!”

But it wasn’t the familiar gentle voice that sang through the wooden door. Yesung sighed and muttered a ‘goodnight’ to whoever it was.

---
Kyuhyun kicked a stone in his path in frustration as he walked out onto the dark street from the apartment.

He couldn’t have made a mistake. He was good at recognising people, even if it was from far or if his eyes weren’t in their best state at the moment. He took the images in like a camera, albeit not so entirely, but he could capture as many details of the person and store them in his memory if they managed to caught his attention. It was one of the many skills he had to aid him in his writing; getting inspiration from people itself and giving his characters life from it.

So how was it that he could have mistaken the image of this distinct person he had stored at the back of his memory somewhere? It wasn’t so much of whether he had seen the ghost or not, but rather why the man didn’t want to admit it. His furious expression was well-played, like he really didn’t know anything but why did he go into a coughing fit in the middle of it? Was he a tuberculosis patient or something?

Or was it him over-analysing things again?

He thought that if the man had indeed seen what he had heard then it can finally prove (to himself, at least) that he wasn’t going crazy. Or that he wasn’t the only crazy one. Either way he could feel he was indeed on the way there already.

Kyuhyun dropped himself on a bench outside and stared at the car parked in front of him. In the midst of the chilly breeze, he noticed that the only light that illuminated the street came from a broken lamp post above. He wondered where the moon went and wished he hadn’t acted like a fool back there. Maybe he really did mistake the beautiful man as someone else.

Wait a minute.

Beautiful? Did his mind just used the word ‘beautiful’ to describe a man? This has clearly taken a toll on his sanity.

“CHO KYUHYUN! What were you thinking?!” a familiar voice rang aloud from behind.

“Hyung” and “sorry” were the only two words he could hear himself say before he lost control.
