Cortezthekiller has presented the challenge of naming 8 of my favorite songs (well, not just mine, she challenged several people). But it's making my brain hurt. Is it possible to have 100 favorite songs? Because I'm pretty sure that I do.
This week was employee appreciation week. On the last day of the week, we always have a big all staff meeting with speakers. Today we had a woman in the morning who talked about creativity and innovation. I wasn't too impressed with her. She jumped around a lot in what she was talking about, and her group activities were confusing, the instructions weren't quite clear. In the afternoon, there was a teacher/author named Jermaine who talked about diversity. I was raised to not judge on race/religion/sexual orientation etc. However, it was interesting to do these exercises and realize that no matter how non-judgmental you try to be, everyone is judgmental about something. He named a bunch of different types of people, and had us write down the first word that came to mind. Then, we yelled out positive and negative stereotypes that we had come up with, not saying which type of person they were about. I already know that I tend to be more judgmental of "jocks", cheerleaders, preppie types, kids I had bad experiences with growing up, kids who's personalities I didn't like in school. I found that I automatically think negatively of Christians, men, and smokers. It's funny how you don't realize the first impressions you get because you don't usually say them out loud. Anyhow, it was an interesting seminar.
