Screw insurance companies. We found a psychologist that is very specialized in treating adolescent females with anxiety, the school psychologist strongly recommended her. But guess what? My insurance won't cover it. It seems really dumb that I have insurance but I still get treated like I'm uninsured. $115 per hour is ridiculous...and very ironic ( Read more... )

I think that a lot of people have anxiety problems but it's just easiest to avoid things that cause it. In my case, if I avoid my fears it'll greatly interfere with my life in the future (I have major problems with getting gas for my car and driving on the highway or driving in a new area - I don't do any of these activities). If you want to talk to the school psychologist about it she can probably asses and see if you should pursue help. She's really nice. :)

We're gonna try to negotiate with our insurance about it...hopefully it all works out.

I get panicky when I don't know where I am. Hyperventalating, crying, all that fun stuff.

Part of the reason that I don't like getting gas is that I'm afraid I'm going to screw up somehow. It's more of a social issue. I don't want to hold up the car behind me, I don't want to get people angry at me, I don't want to press the wrong button. It's really quite embarassing to be afraid of it, because people don't understand my fear. Also I'm paranoid that the gasoline is gonna somehow explode and I'm going to die (this make me sound crazy). Out of the two years that I have had my license I have never pumped gas alone, gone on the highway, or driven outside of the Concord/Bow areas that I am familiar with.

Thanks.

Dr. Sheri Hatfield (shatfield@bownet.org). I think she normally talks with kids with IEPs and such, but she'd be happy to talk with you. Tell her that I sent you. :)
