Three days in at BTG, and I'm doing good. It is a lot of work - it's been a hella long time since I started completely new at a job, not knowing more than the most general stuff. So it's frustrating, but enlightening, at the same time to ask a bunch of questions and figure out the system and routine of things. It's like a great big puzzle really, figuring out how a business operates, and I'm learning more and more every day. The easiest part has actually been the customers - I can talk to anyone in a business/sales environment, and all of my customers have been pretty good so far. Today I got shipped to a different store (the Gunny Hwy one, where I thought I would originally be working) because we were short staffed, so that was an experience. I'll be back there tomorrow too, and then Friday is my day off.
The worst part so far has been two fold - my feet are just numb knobs by the end of the day (11 hours a day standing up will do that), and also we don't actually leave at closing time. Not yet at least. We have stayed an hour or more every night, cleaning up and closing out, mostly because we were busy with customers, or today when I had to unload the shipment we got around 6:30, because the damn driver of the truck didn't finish till around then. Blinds are heavy kids, and 79 boxes (some over 15 feet tall) are a BITCH to move. But that's only three times a week, and most likely I'll usually have help. As it is though, I feel sweaty and gross.
BTG is good though. I like making money again, as money is indeed very good, no?
In other news, I'm getting the cats back. Jason and Amanda are at their wits end with them, so they are dumping (yes, I'm kidding) them back on me on Friday, when Jason comes down. It will be nice to have some company at home, but I wonder just what my nice, neatly arranged place will look like after a while. I REALLY REALLY hope they don't piss everywhere. Seriously.
Anyone who wants to know more about blinds, call me :)
