Sean's current condition

Jul 11, 2005 19:47

Sunday morning my dad & I took my mom to the airport so she could leave for Vegas. [she was going for a conference for work till the 14th] Literally 15minutes after we get home we get a phone call, from Captain C. The Capt said a roadside bomb had hit Sean's HUMMV, I wanted to die. LUCKILY he's still alive. He's in a Iraq hospital in stable condition. He seriously injured his arm and chest. Hopefully he'll come home.

My dad called the airport to try and stop my mom from getting on the plane. Evidentally it left right after he called, so we had to wait for her to stop in Little Rock. They are sending her a message for her to call the house when she gets there. My mother got a flight out of Little Rock, and we picked her up at BWI around 7pm.

We got a call around 12:26am this morning, he had been moved to a hospital in Germany. We got another call around 1:15am...thats when the worst news came. They had to amputate his left arm, above the elbow & there was shrapnel in his eye. They were concerned that the shrapnel in his left eye would cause vision problems. He was also using a ventilator to breath and was currently unconscience. Around 9:30am this morning we got another update about what was going on. He's still in Germany and they were running tests, they removed the tube from his lung. He regained conscience and he was now breathing on his own. They told us he would call.

He called around 1pm and I was asleep so I didn't get to talk to him, but my mom did. Sean said it was an Suicide IED, Improvised Explosive Device. Apparently Sean was traveling in the 4th of 4 vehicles down this road when he was hit. Sean was driving a 2 door hummer with a MAC3 armore kit, machine gun was removed. As Sean was driving down the road he noticed the Iraq Civilian, suicide bomber, near the road. The Iraqi was driving a Grey 4 door Opel and pulled away from the road and then moved closer. Sean went to engage his M16 gun [prepare to fire] at the driver when the Iraqi noticed Sean aiming and triggered the bomb. Sean said that he walked from Hummv to Hummv even right after the incident, so his legs are doing fine. They have him on strong painkillers, perkeset and morphine. He hasn't eaten anything since Sunday at 8:45am. He says the soonest he may be leaving Germany is Friday. There was another gentleman, named Doc, in the hummv with Sean but was sitting further back. Doc is alive and only suffers minor injuries = shrapnel in his arm.
