No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

I live a solitary life, and spend a good deal of time on the computer....or in the garden...with not a whole lot of RL activity. It makes me happy. My first reaction when someone asks me to do something social is to think..."how am I going to get out of it?"

But there are those who tell me to make the effort to socialize. So out of the blue a woman I kinda run into now and again called me and asked me to join her at a concert at our local Junior College this past Sunday, and said she would pick me up and the concert was free. Well, I thought, what the hell, sure I will. She said the concert started at 2 and she would pick me up at 1:15....which she did. When we got to the concert there was no one in the area, except a lady at the box office and when we went up there it turned out the concert began at 1:00 not 2, and it was not free, it was $20 pp.

But, the lady in the box office said that since we were an hour into the concert, we could go in free and take any seats that were empty. Which we did. So the woman, (I will call her W) had a very bulky coat and we did find some seats 4 people in from the aisle, but got seated and then W proceeded to take off her bulky coat with a bit of difficulty. All this while the concert was on. After about 10 minutes a couple came in and told us that those were their seats, they had a season subscription. W says to them in a loudish voice..."Well you can sit over there," pointing to some seats a couple of aisles back. "No", said the lady whose seats we had taken, "those are our seats, we have always sat there and we want to sit there now." People around us staring at us now....

I told W that we should move, I took her coat and we headed over the four people to the aisle and took the other seats, which also were about 4 people in. More upheaval. So we got seated anew and mind you all this time the concert was still going on. Then W, looking at a lady on my left who was holding a program says "Oh, we need a program."...and then talking over me to the lady on my left, asks, "Could I borrow your program?" at which the lady on my left thankfully handed it to W, and looked at me as I shrugged back.

Anyhow...from thereon in it was all good. The music was good and concert was good too.

So then we left the theatre and I am imagining me back home in front of my trusty and wonderful computer, and W says ,"Oh do you mind if we stop on the way home..I have some season tickets to the Opera series at the Cineplex that I have to return." So my life flashed before me because you just know these things are nothing but problematic, but I decided to just go with it and told her OK.

I will say that W is a very nice person....funny, and bright...but.....uh...yeah...

So I ultimately got home....but I gotta say....will take my virtual life over real people any old time.
