first of all. . . know that I just stumbled across this while "surfing" to check out who were all these folks with a JHU connection (I graduated ten years ago. ..). At any rate: I'm sorry to hear of your loss, but it reminds me of when one of my classmates, Craig Daniels, died of a heart attack while sitting at his computer, about a month or so before graduation. Thank goodness JHU gave his parents his degree posthumously as Craig had just completed all the requirements of his M.A. degree before he died so tragically, suddenly and unexpectedly. . . But guess what? If Craig's death did anything for the rest of us it is this: it brought us all closer together and made us stop fighting and being so unncessarily weird, "cut throat" (ala the Hopkins "throat culture" environment, which I'm sure still exists a decade since I graduated) and competitive with each other. So sad that it took a classmate's death for us to come to our senses in this respect. . . So yeah. . . remember: the next five minutes is guaranteed to no one so make the best or most of every minute that life gives you. . .

thanks for your comment. it's amazing how death can put life into perspective. yeah gil was part of the biggest frat on campus and for weeks, they just stopped having parties and just got together and talked about all the good times they had with gil. it's really good to actually talk to someone who actually made it out! there are sometimes where i think it's not possible!
