LJ is for entries people on facebook will overlook

I've had an awesome few weeks, starting with Halloween at work. We all dressed up in a Disney Snow White theme. Mom got really into it and decided to sew the Prince costume for me, turning down all suggestions on how I might help. It came out fantastic... I have to admit the cape made me feel like a badass. I was asked to pose for photos by two sets of patrons. One was the family of a little girl who was dressed as Snow White who looked at us with starry eyes like she found her heroes. Sahreen was Snow White since she was the only girl with black hair. I like that our Snow White was Brown. We went out for pizza afterward.

Next night, most of the unenthused-but-tempted by bowling people came out to bowl. A great time was had.

We went to Lucky's in Wrigleyville where Derek took on their challenge as seen on Food Network's Man v. Food, that is after his dumb ass got lost heading back to his car for an appetizing bit of the yams. I set up my camera on a shaky upside-down cup and recorded over forty minutes of video, edited to less than seven and available on youtube. Highlights: hilarious spectators arrive and some drunk dumbass gets tased by the cops outside.

I put together a birthday party for Amy that was a great success. Amy is a funny, childish, and instantly likable girl two years older than I who wears black from head to toe and shows her self-frustration in jokes about suicide that are deeply concerning to me. She would commonly say things like, "Would someone please shoot me in the head?" I happened to meet her back in High School as I was friends with her brother, and she became a coworker about... four years ago. I've tried for at least a year to get her to come out with us, but she always worms her way out of it.
At work, we have a list of staff birthdays available online, and someone prints out and posts a copy in back. We wish each other happy birthday and some bake cake. Amy makes it clear that she doesn't want anyone to do anything for her birthday, and she even craftily hid her name on the list by use of a cropped copy overlaying a copy. Naturally, this made me want to go all out and throw her a big birthday party at work. So I contacted everyone who was working and asked them to bring in a snack. They put in more than expected, and I put up streamers and balloons, all black. People from other departments who I didn't contact and even someone who wasn't scheduled came in to celebrate. Amy was completely surprised; I think she was a bit touched, even.
A month or two prior to this, Amy began wearing a bit of color, even if it was things like dark navy blue jeans. She also began hanging out with us and I swear she has a better time than most. She was at the aforementioned bowling, and she was at the trip to Lucky's. She jokes about suicide less.
And I
am
so
glad.

As lame as it may sound, I'm having the time of my life at work and hanging out with friends from work. Thinking about it gives me mixed reactions: further discouragement to get a damn career going as it means leaving this job, but I have a clearer conscious about my failure to launch, for lack of a better term.
