After Criminology I stayed to talk to my instructor, Gary Payne. We were talking about mental illness and he suggested I watch One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest. We talked long enough that we ended up walking to his office. As we got to his office suite an instructor I had last semester, Scott Foster (also a sociology instructor) was walking out as we reached the door. Scott said, "Oh oh, this one's trouble." Payne said, "Trouble?" and Scott said, "Yeah, trouble. She says things in class other people won't say." Payne looked sideways at me "Ahhhh!"
That made me feel good, cos I never really thought Scott liked me. Usually you can tell if an instructor likes you by the way he/she responds to you asking questions in class, but I never got any type of response from Scott. Turns out he does like me.
Speaking of instructors liking me, I went by Ollila's office today to tell him that there was a mistake on one of the powerpoints that he put online for our ethics class. Usually I don't say anything because I figure most people will be able to figure out what it should really say easily enough, but this powerpoint is trying to teach us the difference between inductive and deductive reasoning, and the mistake was that on one of the examples it had the answer as deductive, but the answer should have been inductive. If someone didn't already understand the concept that would just fuck them over more.
I showed him the mistake on his computer and he thanked me. He told me that I have an excellent eye for detail. We talked about class and how stupid society is. He wanted me to tutor for Ethics, so we talked about tutoring. As I was leaving his office he said, "You missed your calling. You have a natural talent for this." That the second time he's suggested I major in philosophy. And my psychiatrist has also suggested I major in philosophy twice. Perhaps the sisters fate are trying to tell me something.
