I got the second text book I ordered on Thursday. This allowed me to play some catch up with my work.
Saturday morning the first text book I ordered showed up too. How convenient. That one will be going back with the end result being my refund.
I finished Master and Commander last week so, I started Watership Down by Richard Adams. This novel is about a group of rabbits who fear the worst for their warren (community) and leave to find a better settlement.
The first warren they come across is full of weird rabbits. They don't forage for grass and flowers yet, they are supplied carrots, lettuce, and apples by a local man. They dance, sing, and tell poetry while ignoring the traditional stories of their ancestors. They don't cower or question their surroundings. They have become complacent with their lives. The traditions of their forefathers and the traditions that drove their society were forgotten because there was no necessity in being a rabbit as long as they could live off the man. Every time one of the new-comer rabbits questioned "where" or "why" they receive a cold shoulder. It is soon discovered the man that provides their food also sets snares around their warren. The rabbits had learned to justify their deaths with the sustenance given by the man. What were a few dead rabbits if everything is given to you in return?
This sounds all too familiar.
I plan on buying the movie once I finish.
