Vacation, all that I wanted

I had an uber stay-in-the-city vacation planned and I managed to pull it off. I kick started it last Friday at Meat Beat Manifesto which was funky and I danced with Greta. Downtown was all lit up and crazy with All Star weekend so the next three days turned into uber stay-in-my-apartment vacation. I paid some bills and did a lot of school stuff, and I watched the Olympics of which I am a huge fan. More on the games some other time.

The big weekend for which I took my vacation for began Wednesday with the Taste of Chaos tour featuring headliners Rockstar Energy Drink. The headliner was actually Story of the Year, Thrice and Deftones. Verizon there was a line of record label wagons and Rockstar energy drink vans in front of the venue. This only made me mildly uncomfortable at first and I could not figure out why. My excitement to see Chino didn't even waver when the first thing in the venue was a sidestage with a huge Myspace.com banner. I will say this side stage had a couple of pretty decent acts on. Thrice's set was really distorted I thought, but they played a few of my favorites like Artist in the Ambulance. Deftones comes on and are rocking their hardest stuff from the minute the step on until the minute they step off; a whole 7 or so songs later. They played KNIFE PARTY and 7 WORDS and RX Queen which were really good. RT, Tomas, his brother Mark and I are about 20 feet in front of the stage for the last four songs, and everyone was all sweaty and rocking out and Deftones end their last song, walk off stage and the house lights come on immediately. Everyone crawls off one another and are like "what?". Before anyone can really realize what is happening Rochstar energy drinks magically appear in our hands and everyone is talking about how free stuff is cool? The tickets to that show were WAY too expensive for the concert to be overshadowed by corporate sponsorship. Very strange crowd too.

That was only a small disappointment though and was made up that night. It was a fun show overall. Thursday morning, with the encouragement of a few friends, I decide to throw a party Friday night. This was obviously a last minute thing but I had mentioned the date to a few. It was a resounding success; except my camera is gone. My profile image is the last picture I will ever take with it L. Time for something new I suppose! I need suggestions. I won't mention any names, but there are many different people involved in the insanity that ensued.

Saturday was all about recovering from one heck of a hangover before Sigur Ros. I approached this concert differently then others in that I never really heard or saw the band before I bought the tickets. The show last night was my introduction because I knew that would be the best way to do it. I was overwhelmed with tingles throughout the show. The music felt like a hot stone massage after a sauna sitting; hot and sensational. Beyond the amazing sound, fantastic seats, and theatre setup I was so pleased with the crowd at the show. Seemed like a whole bunch of locals ventured downtown for the evening and there was a major event happening in every venue last night so the city felt more alive then usual. My feeling was proven when I got the call that Greta, Richard and a whole heard of others were meeting at Minc where the band of the hour was chilling out too. We got to the bar super late, but RT and I talked to two of the chamber orchestra girls and RT chatted with the lead singer as we were being booted out of the bar. They have the coolest speaking voices I've ever heard.

*sigh* This week was not without its fair share of drama, but what week isn't? Vacation, as in NO WORK, is all I wanted and I didn't even have to get away; except to my bed for lots of sleep too!

Now back to studying the stars in the night sky for my Astronomy test *groan* and back to work this week *double groan* All good things must come to an end I suppose.
