I realize my journal died, but I suppose this is worth a rant..
I was once told by a teacher of mine that we (America) are a rootless society. I don't think this is what they meant by this but this none the less is my view.
We have nothing to call ours other than a sheet of paper that supposedly represents everything our country stands for. I realize that we in fact do have a continent as well, however the methods in which we stole the land from the Native Americans is far less than honorable enough to call it our land. Watching movies based upon feudalism especially feudal japan such as The Last Samurai make me realize how dishonorable our society is. I don't necessarily mean all Americans are totally without honor, however, businesses outsourcing in order to find cheaper labor and still sell the same product at lower quality and the same price, suing someone for your own stupidity or errors, being the only civilized industrial country that does not offer a nationalized health plan to its citizens and lying to your people are the most dishonorable things concurrently happening.
I realize that most of these items of my complaint are things that more than any one person can be blamed for, if nobody takes credit for the problems they will never be faced up to and thusly never corrected.
I believe that the grave injustices done to the Native Americans far outdoes anything the United States has ever done, regardless of such things as stopping the Nazi movement in Germany and saving countless in concentration camps, we allowed Stalin to persecute his own people afterwords. Another point of dishonor in the "Greatest Generation" is the second atomic bomb. We knew full well the effects of the first bomb, bur rather than allow the Japanese to assess the damages, we chose rather to bomb another city and force a complete surrender.
Now to modern day issues, allowing a president to declare facts as undeniably true when in fact they are totally false is a great injustice. However, the greater injustice was done to Colin Powell, as he was forced into trying to get the entire United Nations to believe in this lie. Yet, no formal apology was given to him, nor was there an impeachment, only an "Improper information" speech and the stepping down of one of our highest ranking chairpersons in the FBI. Yet, apparently, the dip in economy increase in National debt was grounds for even a meeting on impeachment and is in fact apparently grounds for reelection.
The final point I really wish to go into depth on is the lawsuits that continuously occur due to stupidity, not due to someone else's error. Coffee is hot, and thus should not be dropped onto crotch, warning label or not. Suing a doctor for malpractice in a non-vital cosmetic surgery is nonsense, unless there is blatant disregard for the medical code, which I believe almost all cosmetic surgery is. Lastly, could people stop stealing other peoples ideas and claiming they are in fact their own. It turns out the Wachowski brothers didn't write the matrix but instead adapted it off of someone else's manuscripts, without giving them any credit or profit. It took the FBI to find out that the person was not lying and for the courts to give the person any credit, go ahead and google it.
