Q:
Do you know why you have the freedom to say the things you do? In a marxist country you would be shot for disloyalty to your country and or it's leaders. Well, your argument on freedom is little more than a word game, at least; it's easy to say you'd do what you like regardless of the consequences, but what of your family and those who love you? In every society there are revolutionaries but I would say that most people think first about their life and those who depend on it before their pride...what this person meant was the freedom to act without fear of reprisal, which we certainly have in normal situations. Your idealism is admirable, but there are higher things than idealism to die for.

And like it or not, the troops ARE protecting us...although passively more than actively. Consider an America with no military. Would it be less or more safe than an America with a military? Regardless if you agree with their offensive actions (although I'm ignorant, I don't agree with the war on Iraq at least), the very presence of such a strong military prevents us from being invaded, at the very least. (It may seem like an absurd concept, but is it really? And you can argue that terrorists "invaded", but that's more the province of security than the military.) Alright, this is a weak argument. Because what I'm saying is pretty obvious and flimsy, and I agree with most of what you said anyway.

Wow I hate talking about politics! Because I know nothing about it and couldn't change a hell of a lot if I did!
