I found this listing of things from the 90s online and it really made me feel like commenting on a few of them.
You're a 90's kid if:
You can sing the rap to "The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air" I watched this once in a while but I never really liked the song.
You know that "WOAH" comes from Joey from "Blossom" and that "How Rude!" comes from Stephanie from "Full House" Stephanie was probably the single most annoying character on television--much more annoying than Jan Brady ever could have hoped to have been! But I did enjoy full house. That was back when John Stamos was HOT HOT HOT!!!
You remember when it was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons. Yeah. Captain Planet was the only thing on television unless you wanted to watch the kiddie shows on PBS.
You remember reading "Goosebumps" Ahhh yes! Probably some of my first reading experiences. I remember another series as well called Strange Matter that was pretty cool and then there was Fear Street. Perhaps that's what's responsible for my twisted mentality today--I grew up reading this kind of thing and then turned out to be a huge Dean Koontz fan.
You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, wax off" Mr. Miyagi was a wise man.
You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school. Yep, I had a Mickey Mouse and Goofy lunchbox in blue and then a little later on mom got me an Aladdin lunchbox both of which I still have. I got many years of lunches out of those two boxes.
You made paper scrunchies to see who you'd end up marrying ummm...not really a concern of mine back in those days. I think I might have twisted the stem from an apple while reciting the alphabet a few times because someone told me to do it. I kept popping the stem out of the apple on D and ended up marrying a "D" so I guess it's right.
You danced to "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls, Females: had a new motto, Males: got a whole lot gay-er. (so tell me what you want, what you really really want.) This group had a catchy song but honestly, they were more annoying than Hanson and the Backstreet Boys combined. I went for older music. Let's just not go there.
You remember the craze, then the banning of slap bracelets and slam books. I don't really remember slam books ever being popular but I do remember slap bracelets and still have a pile of them. Sometimes i'll even wear one once in a while if I'm feeling extra retro.
You still get the urge to say "NOT" after (almost) every sentence...Not... Nope. I have never had the urge to be that preppy.
Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? was both a game and a TV game show. Yeah, I remember this but it wasn't on top of my list.
Captain Planet. This probably got watched too many times. Partly because I enjoyed the show and partly because it was the only thing on TV at the time. It didn't make me environmentally friendly tho...
You knew that Kimberly, the pink ranger, and Tommy, the green Ranger were meant to be together. I hated the Power Rangers. Why don't they just dance around in spandex underwear!
You remember when super nintendos became popular. Yeah. I didn't have one until a few years after they came out. I was stuck with a freggin Sega Master System and had to play my cousin's NES and SNES.
You remember watching home alone 1, 2 , and 3........and tried to pull the pranks on "intruders" I didn't know there was a 3rd movie but I do remember when the first and second one came out and they were very amusing for me.
"I've fallen and I can't get up" Ok...so sue somebody....I don't know about this one.
You remember boom boxes vs. cd players I had both. I enjoyed my Discman.
You remember New Kids on The Block when they were cool I remember them but I never thought they were cool. I thought the 8 track player I was allowed to use to listen to songs of my choosing was cool and coveted the day when my parents would allow me to use the record player by myself.
You knew all the characters names and their life stories on "Saved By The Bell" Unfortunately this show has been aired so many times I can't help but know their names and life stories. I didn't like this show, I wished many times they'd just take it off the air and put something else on but it just didn't happen. I guess someone out there enjoyed it. I was more of a Hey Dude kind of person, really.
You played and/or collected "Pogs" If I had anymore Pogs, i'd be buried alive in them. I had all sorts of these things but often couldn't find anyone to play with.
You had at least one Tamagotchi, GigaPet or Nano and brought it everywhere Yeah, in fact I bought a Tamagotchi a few years ago and still have it. Once in a while i'll put some batteries in the little bugger and play with it. They're kind of fun. I also had a NANOBaby that was pretty neat.
You watched the original Care Bears, My Little Pony, and Ninja Turtles Sometimes I watched these shows but mostly I liked the Ninja Turtles. They were the shizzle!
NANCY DREW AND THE HARDY BOYS WERE THE BEST MYSTERY BOOKS Nah, not really. I read a few of them and they weren't bad but I enjoyed R.L. Stien much more.
Yikes pencils and erasers were the stuff! Oh yeah, these things were cool. I didn't get too many of them because we didn't have a lot of money to grind up in the pencil sharpener. Most of the time I just got plain yellow number 2 pencils and if I was lucky, I could find a nice Scripto mechanical pencil laying around the house. I loved those things. Oh and I had BIC pens too.
All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand.(pencils.notebooks.b
inders.etc.) Never bought stuff like that. It was too expensive and I really didn't like Lisa Frank anyway. It's pretty neat now tho.
You remember when the new Beanie Babies were always sold out. Yeah, I also remember finding this ugly pig Beanie Baby at school and it turns out that stupid thing was worth nearly 200.00. Needless to say, I cashed in on it.
You used to wear those stick on earrings, not only on your ears, but at the corners of your eyes. These things were fun but they didn't stay put in hot weather unless you glued them!
You've gotten creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" Those shows were pretty good for their time. I always liked it when they threw the powder on the fire.
You know the Macarena by heart. The melody yes, the words, no. I havent done this dance since intermediate school gym class.
"Talk to the hand" ... enough said Ok, I used this phrase once in a while whenever I was feeling like a smartass but I honestly had much better things to say.
You thought Brain would finally take over the world Nope....not really.
You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!" I never said that....
You remember when everyone went slinky crazy. I used to have a slinky but I was satisfied dropping it down the stairs and having it fall underneath the stairs into the storage space once every so often...then i'd have to hunt for it if I wanted to play with it again.
You remember when razor scooters were cool. Yeah. I never had one until just a few weeks ago whenever someone cleaning out their dorm apparently threw one in the trash. Needless to say I brought it back to the office. Now I've got one.
When we were younger:
Before the MySpace frenzy...
Before the Internet & text messaging...
Before Sidekicks & iPods...
Before PlayStation2 or X-BOX...
...Back when you put off the 5 hours of homework you had every night. I didn't do homework. Whenever I got home, that's my time. Not the school's time.
When light up sneakers were cool. I never had a pair of these. Too expensive plus I didn't want to be seen.
When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs. I rented a lot of tapes but mostly games.
When gas was $0.95 a gallon & Caller ID was a new thing. I wish it was that cheap now and I could care less about Caller ID. I remember when we got it but honestly, we didn't need it.
When we recorded stuff on VCRs & paid $3.50 for a movie. I still record stuff using a VCR...I guess that either makes me cheap because I won't pay wal mart 150-200 for a DVD burner or maybe I am just old fashioned.
When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off our walkmans. I never called the radio station. I just played CDs and LPs and listened to what I wanted and never had that problem.
When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever. They WERE the best team ever until Michael Jordan started working for Fruit of the Loom.
Tag.
Get Over Here!!!! means something to you. Not a thing other than what it says.
Hide-n-Go Seek at dusk. Didn't have any friends.
Red Light, Green Light. Didn't have any friends.
Heads Up 7 Up. I remember that but I like Make 7 Up Yours better.
Playing Kickball & Dodgeball until your porch light came on. Sometimes my cousins played with me but they cheated a lot.
Hopskotch. I'd rather just draw on the sidewalk or grafitti something else.
Tree Houses. I never had one. I just sat in the tree without the house.
Hula Hoops. Had one of these. It didn't work too well most of the time....always ended up rolling down the hill.
HELLO....HOT WHEELS!!!!! I have a ton of Hotwheels. I collected those things.
Running through the sprinklers. Sometimes. I didn't particularly like this as compared to playing in the creek.
That "Little Mermaid" I really loved this movie for some reason. I still like it today.
Crying when Mufasa died in the Lion King. I saw that movie once and I can't say that I really liked it. I thought it was one of Disney's crappier movies. I've seen better. Everyone else thinks I am just weird for not liking that one.
Happy Meals where you chose a Barbie or a Hot Wheels car. Got lots of those. Usually took the Hotwheels.
Getting the privilege to sit in the front seat of the car. Well...it wasn't really a privilege. I just usually never got to do it unless all the people who normally ride in the car were not in the car. At that point, I was allowed to sit in the front seat with the driver. That was back before they beefed up requirements for booster seats, age and back seats.
Drinking Sqeeze It "Squeeze The Fun Out Of It" Allergic.
Or what about:
Hey Arnold. This was probably one of the best cartoons that ever came on the air. I really enjoyed this one and usually would sit around waiting for it to come on
Rugrats. a memorable part of my childhood but I never really liked it.
The Secret World of Alex Mac. Alex Mac was the shizzle. I read a lot of the books based on the TV show. They were pretty good. I liked the suspense and her powers were fun in a weird sort of way.
Rocco's Modern Life. This show was the funniest thing on television. I LOVED it. I would watch it all the time. What a shame that it isn't on anymore.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? This one was great. What ever happened to SNICK?! They should put that back on. Most of the time they had a pretty good story to tell.
Doug. Ahhh, a day in the life of Doug Funnie. I liked him a lot. I watched this show until it went into reruns. I still have fond memories of wanting to live a life like Doug. I wanted to live in Bluffington and have all the friends that Doug had and have everybody like me. Life just doesn't get that perfect. Let's go down to the Honkerburger....
Magic School Bus. Nope.
Aladdin. This was my other favorite Disney movie. I liked this one about as much as The Little Mermaid but the 2nd and 3rd movies were a let down.
Pinky and the Brain This one was a classic.
Sailor Moon. I somewhat remember this but I never really watched it.
Blossom. nope.
Beavis & Butt-Head We didn't get MTV until the late 90s so I guess it was a little after my time.
Wishbone. I loved that little dog. He made school so much easier. I read his book instead of reading Romeo & Juliet at school.
Bill Nye the Science Guy I remember him but Mr. Wizard was much better.
MR RODGERS!!!! Not interested.
Where everyone wanted to be in love after watching The Wonder Years. I really liked the Wonder Years but I never wanted to be in love after watching it. It just didn't have that effect on me. I remember wanting them to write Paul out of the show because he was such a dork.
Under the Umbrella Tree ummm...no.
PEE-WEE!!! Oh yes! He was very amusing but he could have had another voice.
The Big Comfy Couch nah
Kool-Aid was the drink of choice. I liked it but it didn't like me.
Class field trips.
When Christmas was the most exciting time of year. It still is.
When $5 seemed like a million, & another dollar a miracle. For me it was 1.00
When you begged to go to McDonalds for dinner everyday. I was lucky to go to McDonalds once a month.
When Toys R Us overuled the mall. I was lucky to go to the mall twice a year...rarely did I buy anything from Toys R Us. It was too expensive.
Go back to the time when:
Decisions were made by going 'eeny-meeny-miney-moe'. mm hmm...oh the power of selection!
Money issues were handled by whoever was banker in 'Monopoly.' I done well to get someone to play Monopoly with me otherwise I played it with myself and was my own banker.
Being old referred to anyone over 20. I don't really remember thinking anyone over 20 was old.
A chance to skate as a couple at the local roller rink was like winning the lottery. And for me the odds were stacked against me. I never went to the roller rink outside of a church trip that was horrible. I found out I couldn't skate. It was many years later that I found out that I could rollerblade like no tomorrow!
When Ninja Turtles ruled the world. They still rule the world!!!
When Aladdin was new, before the trilogy was complete. This was an interesting time especially since the trilogy sucked.
