Yesterday I spend 6 hours in the studio finishing up the song that I wrote for the Star-cross'd movie. It's been a very up and down vibe about that experience, the studio was kind of primitive by today's standards, no pro-tools, not a lot of punch in and out areas, they used the same microphone for everything (instruments/vocals) which is kind of odd to me, but hey I'm no engineer.
Before yesterdays session I was feeling a bit down about the way the song was going. I felt it lost direction..or maybe I should say I felt that the direction was taken from me. But yesterday I got it back, took back a bit more control and the song came to life. I've only heard the rough/dry version of it, and as usual the vocal track makes me cringe, but the music is beautiful. I've dove so deep into the soft spoken acoustic style that it was a little bit of a challenge to sing a rock song. I guess we'll see how it all sounds after the studio magic is done.
Now that the soundtrack song is out of the way I can focus all of my energy on getting my music ready for my actual cd. I am beyond excited to see it all come together, it definitely won't be a matter of lack of ideas, because I think I have more than I'll be able to fit in - it's going to be a matter of money, studio time is not cheap and time flies in the studio, last night went by in a snap, and it if I were paying for it last night alone would've cost me $180..and that was only recording 3 tracks on 1 song. I'm planning on recording 9 tracks for my cd, so the math on that is pretty scary. But I'm going to do this right, I'll take as much time as I need to record it exactly the way I want it, if it takes 2 years to finish, then so be it.
In other news...Jason is here visiting from Florida, it's always nice to have him around again. It just sucks when he has to leave. Lots of snow...lots of snow, I guess if we're going to be buried in snow this is the best week for it.
That's all for now, be safe.
