The tournament at UMass turned out to be phenomenal. Our team finished 5th out of 14, which was a lot better than I thought we were going to do. We ended up going 5 and 2 on the weekend, playing very well against a few teams and blowing out most of the other ones.
The freshmen and new players on the team really stepped into their roles and were able to contribute a lot more to the team than I thought they would be able to. The returners all looked as good or better than they did last year. Once we get a few more of our A players back together on the field and train our new and B players a bit more I think the Pilots are going to be a huge pain in the ass for a lot of New England teams who had written us off.
I was also really happy with the way I played this weekend. I showed up Saturday morning not knowing what I was capable of or where my skills were, and left Sunday afternoon feeling very confident about what I have and very excited about where I could end up at the end of the spring season. My throws were almost uniformly on target, I can think of only one dropped disc, my man defense was solid, my cutting was better than solid, and I even had a very graceful layout D.
Highlights of the weekend include:
-a sweet layout D against Amherst Regional High School in the endzone
-a beautiful huck to Jasper for a score
-scoring three of our six points in the second half against UVM after not playing the first half
-being named MVP of that game and receiving a shot of whiskey and peppermint schnapps
-getting a huge sky against a much taller BC player (even though I landed out of bounds)
