COLUMBIA - Graveside services with full military honors for Charles B. Wall, Jr. USN Captain (Ret.), 86, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 29, 2005, in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. Mr. Wall, widower of Sally Ann Jungklas Wall, died Wednesday, October 26, 2005. Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Charles B. Wall, Sr. and Ellen Irene McGowan Wall. He was a graduate of Wofford College class of 1941 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Captain Wall, Inspector General of the Sixth Naval District, retired from the United States Navy after 26 years of service. During his 26 years of active duty, Captain Wall commanded the guided missile destroyer, Gyatt, and was Executive Officer on the destroyer, Corry, and Communications Officer on the aircraft carrier, Leyte. His commendations include the National Defense Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the American Defense Service Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Joint Services Commendation Medal.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ellen Wall-Mitchell and husband, Malcolm, of Columbia and Sara Jane Gard and husband, Perry, of Peachtree City, GA; son, Charles B. Wall III and wife, Kristy, of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Janice A. Wall and Erin Ann and Mary Elise Gard and several nieces and nephews.
