i'm in a transformative gear phase.
working on new projects.
got to my current gear goal and am of course bounding past.
so i've been playing with the angel guys. only a few times so far, but already figured out some things i need.
1. to play through an amp.
it's been my experience that a synth/noise through a tube amp sounds way better than through a PA. personal choice i realize, but it's easier to dial in 'tone' and not step all over everyone else. to lay a solid layer of noise/texture/miscellany and still sound rad, i like to know what i'm dealing with and not some soused up sound dudes whim.
i've been playing through a carvin and 2x12 crate speaker cabinet. call me in six months(aka a month) when i'm playing through a model t reissue with an emperor 2x12/1x15.
this also allows me to switch channels from clean noise/texture to distorted noise texture. some might scoff at this entire idea, but it's the difference between noise and NOISE.
also i'm a huge proponent of playing an instrument amplified correctly and sending the effects through the effects loop. thinking of that tonally already gets me riled up.
finalmente will be going from clean to effected to distorted with that extra footswitch. dice!
2. fuck samples.
don't get me wrong. i love the mpc for ideas/sequencing/taking notes/whatever but something about playing live twiddling business is way more appealing to me. i hate playing keyboards. i just do. it doesn't make sense to me. so now i hit play. and then let that sample ride out while the sherman/moogs do the leg work.
i am my own worst enemy here. sometimes i can do random insane parts and other times i want to write a part. part being twiddling knobs in the same fashion during the same riff or passage of a song. i will probably read this later and be infuriated at myself, but this is how i think right now. aka it was late i was tired.
3. i was going to talk about overdrive/distortion for synths and general noisiness, but the amp disortion channel cures all that.
i'm still on the list for a penny pedals fingerprint(
http://www.pennypedals.com/index.php?page=fingerprint-2) and might put the catalin bread teaser stallion in the signal for another self osciallating nightmare but that hasn't come to pass yet. the sherman is doing a bang up job on insane gainy sounds so there's that.
4. live setup.
i'm currently sitting/laying/playing catcher on the floor. i'm thinking of keyboard stand with pedalboard case top as the table top. synthi/mpc on table, pedal board on ground below. the sherman has been taking a lot of babying with the mpc so i may need to figure that out as i don't want to be on the floor kissing it's ass for a whole set.
ps fuck loopers
just for me personally. i've owned them all. i fucking hate it. i'll be selling my loop junkie soon i bet. fuck 'em all. just doesn't work for my though process and style.
this could all change tomorrow. but it's been how i've been thinking. there is another sunn t50c on the bay. if i magically come into 1k i'll strongly think about it.
