Project DIY : monitor stand

Jul 30, 2007 11:53

Hi,

Yes, I know, it's been while. I've been busy with a lot of things, I'm trying to summon up enough concentration to write but that's been a little slow. So... I've been trying to organize my own desk as well.. I tied up and wrapped all the cords so they look neat and clean instead of the clutter that I usually have (both underneath and on the desk) I'm some what successful with it, my desk looks more or less orderly now. LOL. And since the desk space was rather small I tried to find the monitor stand so I can store my keyboard underneath when I try to do other things (cutting stuff, stickers, drawing.. etc.) Couldn't find one that suit me though, so I made one!!! (I got the idea from lifehacker.com) Anyway, if you are not too terribly busy and have a moment,

Material list
1. a piece of board cut to size (mine is 24"x9")
2. 4 or 5 pieces of something that can support the board and give enough clearance for keyboard I got 4 pieces of pvc pipe.
3. a piece of black sticker paper (I happened to have a few pieces of them already)
4. several print out (if you wanna make it look nicer, I guess) I got Mai Otome manga printed out.
6. a roll of clear contact paper (you can get them at craft store or home improvement store)
7. hot glue gun and some regular white glue.

1. I get 4 pieces of pvc pipe (I found them already cut to perfect length at the home improvement store) Should have gotten 5 so I get support in the middle, but hey. I improvise. A piece of mdf or shelve at 24"x9" this piece I got was a little thin, thus the more support.

2. Wrapped everything in black sticker, which I have several rolls of it lying around. Which include the wood, the pvc pipe. Don't stick the whole thing down just put down the corner first (keep the backing paper on only peel out the corner) and slowly press down with a piece of cardboard to get all the air bubble out.

3. Glue the print out down with regular white glue (the black sticker only serve as a blackground and it's easier to clean if you make mistake) Mine use Mai Otome manga printout (Mai, Natsuki, Fumi, Shizuru and Natsuki because I love them!!)

4. Now you use the clear contact paper to laminate it, so you won't rip out the collage you put down with just glue. Same thing with the sticker paper, slowly push out air bubble, do this from a corner. And wrapped it, down to the bottom too.

5. Use hot glue gun to glue the pvc to the bottom, I put the ones in the back measure 5" from the side to give support to the middle. And the 2 up front I just put them close to the edge.

6. And you'll get this!!

That's it, done! It doesn't take much, just some patience, that's all. Go slow with the stickers and contact paper. Now I'll got put it on my desk when I get back tonight, and arrange things on the desk too.

Well... My first DIY instruction, was it easy to follow?
