Rodney was never one for adventure. He liked the safe confines of his lab. He knew going to Atlantis would give him the glory he always wanted, even if he couldn’t tell anyone about it. But it was still scary. No contact with Earth, and they didn’t know what would be on the other side. Breathable air didn’t mean it was safe.
After O’Neill shoved him out of Operations, Rodney walked down the stairs, and into the Gate room. He pushed himself through the crowd, his heart pounding loudly in his ears. For a brief moment, he pondered leaving but stopped when he glanced to the side.
Carson was standing there, a strange mixture of fright and happiness on his face. Rodney knew about Carson’s unfound fear of going through the Gate. He also knew a lot of other things about Carson - like how pressing his tongue on just the right spot made him wither in pleasure.
When Carson turned his head to look at him, Rodney watched as the fear left his face as he gave him a brilliant dimpled smile. It was at that moment Rodney knew going to Atlantis would be all right. He would have Carson there with him, and Carson had a way of making everything better.
