Hi. My name is Ashley Loomis. I am a 17-year-old junior at Swartz Creek High School in Swartz Creek, Michigan. I am writing to tell you about my mom, Tammie Loomis, for the “Live’s Mom’s Dream Come True” contest. My mom isn’t the neighborhood hero and she hasn’t saved any lives she is just the ordinary mom of three and one of the greatest women I know.
When my sister, my brother, and myself were younger my mom made it to every school function and sports activity to support us. Even now that I am 17 my mom still comes to every one of my tennis matches to be there for me. Whether I win or lose my mom is always there with a smile and a hug. And if I lose every point she is there to tell me how awesome I did and how proud she is of me.
Ever since I could remember my mom has always loved being around kids. Just over 2 years ago she decided to go to college to get a job in the early childhood education field. Just this year she was in her last semester and was set to graduate with her degree in May. In the beginning of March she began having a pain in her arm so the doctor ran every test possible to see what was wrong. They thought it was either a pinched nerve or a pulled muscle. It turned out to be neither of those and her doctors could not figure out the problem. She lost almost all use of her left arm. When she found out that she couldn’t use her arm she was forced to quit her job in the daycare she worked at. She was also student teaching at a different daycare for her fieldwork class in college. She also had to quit at this daycare center and drop her class. She was so close to her goal of graduation and now it is all gone until the doctors can find out what is wrong. I know my mom isn’t a quitter and she hated having to stop. Through the 2 years she has been working with children she has touched so many little lives. She put her knowledge into each of their minds and I hope they can carry a piece of it with them forever. I know if my mom could just finish she would go on to touch an endless number of tiny hearts and minds of our children.
Since my mom was forced to quit her job she now spends her days at home with my three-year-old niece Harleigh. She also takes care of her mother who has dementia, a disease much like Alzheimer’s. I greatly admire my mother for this. Dealing with a high-energy three-year-old and a 76 year-old who is constantly forgetting things has to be hard but my mom does it every day with a smile on her face.
I think my moms one wish would be to go to Walt Disney World. She has always wanted to go but often sacrificed her chances to go for my siblings and myself. I feel that my mom is beyond deserving of this wish and I hope you can grant it for her. Thank you so much for you time and consideration of my letter.
Sincerely,
Ashley Loomis
