Drinking

So what is my stand on drinking? Sure it is okay for people to drink on the weekends and have some fun, but getting trashed on the weekdays is a different story. I am okay with it if people drink to get buzzed and such, although I would never do it myself. Smoking pot and smoking in general is simply disgusting. I don't tell people to quit

I'm not saying it is good or bad - right or wrong... but drinking a lot is a pretty standard and normal behavior for college students, ESPECIALLY Freshman... More than any time in your life, if you go through your Freshman year of college without being totally drunk multiple times, you are a very very rare minority. Different people take things to different extremes - if someone is out drinking every night, or if someone is drinking on nights before they have class the next day, they may have a problem. Generally, if you can keep a freshman alive, he will fail enough classes and get in enough trouble that he or she will come around and correct his or her behavior. I'm not trying to endorse freshman going out and getting fucked up on a regular basis - I'm just saying they probably will and telling them not to, or pretending they don't, or even trying to force them not to are all going to fail miserably.

As far as smoking goes, I am of the opinion the cigarettes smell nasty. If someone starts smoking it is a great way to end a conversation with me - I'll just leave. I do not mind the smell of pot though - In fact, I actually kinda like it. It brings back memories of concerts and fun times... Anyway, if it comes to drinking or smoking pot, I would much rather someone smoked some pot. It is a hell of a lot safer for those around them, and some would argue that it is safer for them as well.
