MERLIN

So, I got back from my thrilling trip out - stolen pizza, mwahahaha, I am leet! - and my f-list had exploded with Merlin love! Le shock! ^_^

This episode. This episode!! I. Oooooooh.

Arthur, you complete prick! And Merlin, darling, you adorable - clotpole!

I'm too fangirl'd out to go and watch it again and make a commentary, but basically - Mackenzie Crook is awesome, Colin and Bradley PWN, the script still sucks and the CGI is best not mentioned. BUT IT STILL ROCKS.

Seriously, why do we like this show? Is it just the slashy gay subtext that draws us back every time? And of all the shows to get broadcast EVERYWHERE, why is it this one?

Anyway, onwards, this episode. :D

Like I said, still got no idea why I like this show, but EPIC LOVE IS EPIC ALL THE SAME. Arthur yelling for Merlin - though, er. On that note. Merlin sleeps in his room in Gaius' chambers, and Gwen kept the house she lived in with her dad before he was executed. Why are they suddenly ready and available for their masters in the middle of the night/first thing in the morning? - NEVER MIND. A slasher's mind asks not the reason why! I will happily take shirtless Arthur and nearby Merlin and make a night of hot hot sex for them.

Which is evidently followed by OMG GUILT (possibly the reason for the SPOILER: Gwen kissing in the bit-after-the-episode? :D) on Arthur's part which explains his dickishness to Merlin.

OK, it totally doesn't.

This is an almost total reversion to form for Arthur, which is weird; I would have bought him acting like this in the first half of last season, but the writers - mostly by guess and God, it seems - did develop his character somewhat, and even by the Gates of Avalon episode, it took a spell to make him act like such a complete bastard towards Merlin. Not hearing him out, taking the word of a man he barely knew (when, um, Edwin? Lancelot?) over Merlin's because of little more than flattery... strange. There was a hint of it in Le Morte d'Arthur after Arthur's healed - "I decide when we want to talk" - so maybe that's an extension of that? After all, nothing linked Merlin to Arthur's miraculous recovery, maybe Arthur is growing away from Merlin now that his miraculous feats of loyalty seem to be becoming a little less... frequent? He associates his healing with Gwen and Gaius, maybe their relationship actually weakened after that episode.

IDEK, maybe I should stop reading stuff into this. :D God knows the writers didn't intend any of it. ^_^

So! Cedric. Cedric and the awesomesauce Mackenzie Crook. I loved him, even when he was wearing the raven coat of FAIL. ("You have to think about these things... when you're... THE RAVEN!") And spouting the script of FAIL, too, actually, but. You know. OH WELL.

On which note, the heart. The heartshaped soul-gem. The heartshaped soul-gem containing the soul of the evillest sorcerer known to man. Which was made of plastic. I... don't even know what to say about that. I think my Barbies are jealous. ^_^

I'd better just reiterate at this point that I loved this episode, because this seems to have become less a "reaction" post and more a "criticism" post, which wasn't intentional. I thought Colin and Bradley were awesome, even if I think the Gwen/Arthur thing is going - 'fast' isn't the right word. It just seems a bit... convenient, honestly. But Angel was awesome, as was Katie as usual, and is it me or is the CGI a little better? Hey, the gargoyle thing was kind of neat. BETTER THAN THE FREAKING COCKATRICE.

No apology, though. Tut, Arthur. TUT.

So. Bit early to be making judgements at the moment, and my black slasher's little heart trembles before the mighty power of Gwen and Arthur's CANON LOVE, but... so far, loving it. And the end teasers were leet! Can't wait to see what they come up with. *g*

Mackenzie Crook for Prime Minister, I think. *nods*
