I made a little squeaky noise as I scrolled through my flist and spotted this. Then OF COURSE I had to go back and re-read chapter three ~for atmosphere~.
I just love this so much! Thank you so so much for taking the time to write more - it honestly doesn't feel like it's been so long, but that's probably because I have read this in between a few times and it has always stuck so well in my memory after the big twist of chapter one <3
Merlin’s smile was brighter and kinder than Arthur felt he deserved. “Uther chased me out,” he said easily, with the same easy forgiveness that Arthur remembered and had clung onto for so long. “Not you. There’s a lot I’d do for you, Arthur.”
MY HEART.
I love how even though this is post series one, you've still tied in aspects of the series since like Gwaine and Morgana's growing powers, whilst still making a whole new awesome plot (dying to see what will happen with this rival King!). Can we also talk about Guinevere the Court Physician because that is just INSPIRED. I always wanted to see her do more than fetch hot water and carry folded up sheets back in the Olden Days (otherwise known as The Golden Years). I also love Arthur's plans for his kingdom and how Merlin is thinking about the wider political issues, they're going to be such a crack team.
Merlin was out of the bath and swamped in one of Arthur’s nightshirts, his hair damp and curling at the nape of his neck.
