Win some, lose some
Well, we managed to get out of paying July rent, but then a pile of unexpected expenses fell on our heads all at once. Our air conditioner gave up the ghost, on the hottest day of the year so far. We picked up another one for around 300 bucks, and it's much more powerful... which is good, because we're moving into a bigger place and we're going to need it. Then, on top of that, Alina's laptop needed repairs. The power-cable-outlet-thingy on the back has only been registering that it's plugged in about half the time, and this weekend it finally gave up. JUST at the same time that Alina's Wacom tablet died. Between repairing the laptop and getting a new tablet, we're going to be set back another 350 or so. It sucks, but I guess it could have been a LOT worse... at least the laptop is repairable, and they guy at the shop said it would be done by Wednesday, which is incredible.
On the other hand, GST cheques just came in, and I managed to get "no hookup fee" special deals on ALL of our utilities for the new place... the power company, Telus, and Shaw all had promotions going on at the same time. So like I said, you win some, you lose some. I'm just glad that Alina has a pile of vacation pay coming to her when she finishes working in two weeks.
