Making a road kill is sad

Jun 08, 2005 01:19

I committed involuntary manslaughter to an animal around midnight this morning
Miss Amy Zac's Road with a Honda
so I felt the sudden need to do something for it since it's the first animal I've ever killed anything bigger than a cockroach
this isn't a poem or anything more like a speech I would give if it had a funeral dedicated to the furry creature of the night

Flowers
I regretted before I hit you
but a car was coming and there was no room to swerve
as my back wheel went over your small frame
my car filled with the smell of death
we gagged and sprayed the car down with air freshener
but still it lingered under the smother of cinnamon
it clung to us
I tried to wash away the sent
used a fruity body gel
but the smell of your death faintly lingered it my hair
the smell of false life can't cover true death
people would say I'm silly for grieving your death
it's true you weren't Bambi
I shy away from your kind like anyone else
but you were still alive
in that split second between when I saw you and when I hit
thats when you're supposed to make a choice
but I didn't make one
or if I did I choice not to act
it was over and done with before I could do a thing
I should be relieved you weren't a person
but you were still alive
do you have feelings?
do you have a family at home waiting for your return?
is it the same?

bad poetry, something of interest
