OK, I've got a minute while I'm waiting for my dad to bring me back Devin, so more updatey-ness.
Let's see... I know I gushed about Tribal Rev. I can always gush a little more ;). It was amazing, and SO good to see my belly family again, and to meet new dancers. The workshop with Amy Sigil was enlightening, in many ways. It showed me how I've grown as a dancer, how I can keep up now ;). Back in like 2007 when I took the Heather Stants workshop with Megan, I was COMPLETELY overwhelmed. I learned ONE move, and was so frustrated that I just stopped trying. But this time around, while not completely correct, I could do everything and could even keep up with the combos we learned, as best as I could. It was practically magical. And hearing her talk about the dance, her history, how she teaches... it was truly a remarkable experience. She is an amazing woman and I'm thankful that she's willing to share so much with us, the dancing community. Awesome.
The 12th was also my first day as a relief vet tech, and it went well! After 8 months off the job I was nervous, but it's just like riding a bike, so we were all good. That clinic's only open 4 hours on Sat, so that was nice too, hehe.
I was off the 14th to give me a "recover from Tribal Rev" day, and it turned out to be REALLY good that I was off... Dev woke with a low fever :(. she had diarrhea too, so I called the ped. He said as long as she's drinking and not vomiting, just to keep her home and give her Tylanol every 4 hours. We did and she seemed to be ok, mostly, but she was still hot that night, so I knew she could not go to daycare the next day. SO... She was sleeping fitfully, and around 3am woke crying, HOT (102 in her armpit), and coughing. I gave her some more Tylanol, and held her, but every time she's start to drift off she had these horrid gasping coughs where she's start to gag and I thought she was going to vomit. I tried the emergency ped line, but ended up just taking her to the ER at 3:30am. The cough was scaring me, kinda sounded asthmatic. Luckily Northwest Community Hospital was quiet then ;). They're always so good to us. We got right in and the doc looked her over. First of all she had a DOUBLE ear infection :(. He listened to me and said it sounded like she had
croup :P. Rads confirmed it. So she got a steroid in hospital to reduce the inflammation and a script for augmentin for her ears. Poor baby!! We got to Walgreens at like 5:30 and home again at like 6am... yeah, we stayed home Tuesday o_O. Croup is contageous for like 5 days anyway, so she had to stay home. Tuesday *I* started showing signs of illness too, and I'm pretty sure I'm fighting another viral sinus infection. Yay. So, my friends, THAT was our ER visit :P.
Work's been hard, illness notwithstanding. I won't say BAD, it's not bad... but people quit, people were fired, and we don't have our new hire yet. And with sick time and vacations and juggling facilities... I'm pooped. It's keeping us hopping, and I'm really hustling just to keep up. But I'm managing. Gotta locate my diploma and start studying for my
ALAT test... yeah. I need WAY more time in the day. Yeah.
Last weekend, let's see... Well, Friday I drove home in the HORRIFIC storm, v1.0 at like 4pm. It hit so FAST... it was light grey clouds, then dark grey, then BLACK. Pitter patter rain, then OMG SIDEWAYS DELUGE. Thick lightening strikes flashing straight down. Then, like 15 minutes later, back to light grey and pitter patter again. MADNESS. There were 2 more storms that night, v1.1 hit at like 9pm, waking Devin and driving her to the sofa with me, and v1.2 hit at likw 11pm, so Dev and I finally crashed at midnight o_O. I worked that Sat, but only 2 hours since West Loop had a booth at the Taste of Randolph St, so that was REALLY nice, hehe. I don't think we did much else Sat... We did go to the mall, and Albie went to Europe for 3 weeks. Sunday Dev's dad was sick, so I kept her. We went to lunch at Red Lobster with my Dad and Eva, then we took Dev to see Toy Story 3!! It was AWESOME, they did a great job with it. Funny, emotional, action packed, we loved it ;). Good times! We wandered the Streets of Woodfield a little (Dev likes Gameworks ;)), and that was that.
This week was kinda crazy. I'm still kinda under the weather, so I'm kinda sluggish and sleepy. Monday I wanted to do something fun for Devin (AND it was the solstice!!), so we went to Woodfield. I wanted to look at more Sketchers (*obsession*...), then we wandered Hot Topic. Airbender stuff!! YES!! I wanted to show Devin the Toy Story toys so we played at the Disney store for a while. We got a pretzel hot dog then I let her run around like a crazy at the play area. After it closed we had dinner at Panera with my mom. Tuesday we had Thai food with Zahra, and ran around the apartment like crazies ;). Wed I worked overtime at work (GAH!), then drove home in the HORRIFIC storm v2.0. Slightly scarier, as it lasted longer and involved lightening striking cars and tornadoes touching down along with the sideways rain. The lightening was WAY cooler too, striking then branching out like a leafless tree. Dude. I also worked on a little belly dance with Neta. Thursday was errand and constructive day, where I did NOT play on Facebook all night. And Friday was SUCH a perfect, gorgeous summer day that after I got Devin back we went swimming for an hour. Best decision EVER.
I kinda hate summer, but I'm growing to appreciate it a skosh more now that I'm older, and the kinda day Friday was, bright and sunny but with fluffy clouds for a break, WAY less humidity and a delicious cool breeze... yeah, a girl could get used to that ;). All the fun summer
events and
fests help a little too, not that I can afford to actually do many of them. Can't make it to the Taste or the Pride parade this weekend :(. MIGHT go to
Strawberryfest tomorrow, and hopefully I AM going to the
Sears Centre Arena Outdoor Market tomorrow :D.
And today... worked at a different hospital, and it was good. I'm home now, still waiting on my daughter. I guess she took a long nap, and she's in Greyslake with my dad... so as soon as she's up they're heading back, far as I know. Just chilling and writing all this up in the meantime ;). So, there you have it, my last few weeks :).
Oh, and FYI: I'm going to the
Ren Faire this year on Sat July 17th and in Sept, either the 5th or the 6th :). Company's always welcome.
OK, hopefully they'll be more in smaller chunks ;). Later, yo!!
