My Lord and Lady...
Tribal Revolution is like going home :). The costumes, the shopping, the hair, the people, the DANCE!! It's just completely amazing.
Due to financial restraints I couldn't do much this year, which was really depressing. I'm already allocating some of next year's tax return to Tribal Rev 2011!! The new line up demands it ;). Missing the hafla was heartbreaking... but I DID get to see the gala show last night!! And oh... my... GODDESS was it a phenominal show!! I am crazy grateful I got to go. Here's the line-up, from the website:
Performing in the Saturday Night Gala Show:
Ariellah (CA) Blue Lotus Tribe (IL)Deb Rubin (CA)Elisha and Zoh'ra (IL)Samatha Riggs (WA)UNMATA (CA) plus special guests:
Boheme Tribal (MI)Czigany Tribe (MI)Eliza Perry (IL)IL Troubadore (IN)Jasmin Jahal (IL)Kelly Holder (WI)Rakhshanda (WI) *dies* Seeing some of these dancers for the first time, it's like, oh, NOW I get what a big deal is!! Ariellah's gothic dance is seriously captivating. Deb Rubin is electric. Samantha's bollywood is CRAZY entertaining. Jasmin Jahal? WOAH, holy amazing cab dancer, Batman!!
And even if I'd seen the others before, that doesn't stop them from consistantly blowing me away. It was just such a POWERFUL show, full of dynamic and wildly talented dancers that more than inspire, they just sweep you away with their energy :). And while I know this is kinda gushing, I only get to see some of these ladies once a year or once every few years, so it's just so easy for me to get swept up in the whole experience :).
Almost literally... we planned a suprise fashion show for Kelly during the show. Kelly makes these amazing belly dance hoodies and she's vending for the first time at Tribal Rev. So Christina asked all of us that own hoodies to model them. They did Kelly's intro before her dance like normal, but then "I'm Too Sexy" started to play and we all paraded up onto the stage and modeled her hoodies. It was totally bad ass and fun and we totally suprised her :). Good times!!
A friend of mine that I've not seen since high school came, Jen. We used to dance together, so it was a total bonding experience. She brought her 3-year-old daughter so she and Devin had a good time together :). We explored the vending, superior as always, though this time I could not get anything :(. But Jen got a bunch of cool stuff ;). It's always fun to shop. Steampunk, bloomers, feathers, and of course skirts, jewelry, cholis... oh MAN. SO shiny. We totally enjoyed the show, then Dev and I hung out with the dancers for a bit after. She did NOT want to leave, I had to peel her from the girls, hehe. *I* was exhausted!!
And here we are. I think in a big we're going to swim. Then Dev's off to Kate, Joel and Ellie's to play while I go take Sigil School, my only workshop this year, with Jen, Neta and whoever else's there ;). After that I'm meeting back up with Kate, Joel, Ellie and Dev for dinner. Score!!
