Man, lots of stuff has been goin' down in Xanville lately.
As I mentioned in the last post, there was a little Renaissance Faire happening on the TTU campus on Saturday. I went and checked it out and found it to be okay at best. The thing was held at our museum, which is actually a nice museum! There was a big exhibit on swords through the ages at the moment so hence the renaissance faire. The faire itself was itty bitty and mostly full of community people - families and their kids. Which is cool, but I had gone hoping that there would be some other geek-inclined students there.
I had put on a costume before I went just to get into the spirit of the thing.
This costume, to be exact. I'm the first to admit that the skirt's short, but it isn't OBSCENELY short. My ass isn't hanging out of it. The cleavage is not gratuitious. This is nothing any more scandalous than what you are going to see girls wearing on a typical hot day just about anywhere, ESPECIALLY on a college campus.
So what happens is that after I've looked at all the exhibits I wander outside because there's a swordplay demonstration or something going on. I am literally standing and watching and minding my own business when a woman sidles up next to me...
Woman: Are you wearing shorts under there? Just curious.
Me: No...
Woman: Are you aware that this is a family event?
Me: Yes...
Woman: Well, I'm a mom and I have a fifteen year old son and I just don't think that's appropriate.
Me: *stunned silence as she walks off*
And then I went into my car and bawled my eyes out. It wasn't just that I was upset about the woman being a total bitch to me (although I was upset about it), it was a combination of other things too. I've been really emotional lately and stressed because of school and things and just... LONELY. I have problems making friends in new environments and not having people to hang out with or at least talk to is hard. And I had really been hoping to meet some cool people at the faire and getting met with that kind of bitchitude instead was just a slap in the face.
So I got in my car and bawled and called my Mommy like I was a six year old girl who had scuffled on the jungle gym and told her all about it. And my mother, being AWESOME, promptly answered with "AM I GONNA HAVE TO COME UP TO LUBBOCK AND CHOKE A BITCH?"
I love that woman.
So after talking with her, I managed to stop bawling and felt little better. She told me to go buy season 3 of Dexter on her card and to go find a Dairy Queen and buy myself a dip cone. T_T I love her. I also called/texted the majority of my Support Group of people who would understand this particular kind of crisis and felt a lot better after talking with Zandra and Deb especially. And then I went up to Hastings (still in costume) and picked up season 3 of Dexter and also Slumdog Millionaire and Role Models since they were having a sale and then stopped at this little charity car wash that was going on in the parking lot. I gave them a few bucks and hung out on the street corner waving down cars while they washed my car. XD;; They told me to go stand there because I'd attract attention. My car was much happier and cleaner after and talking with nice people made me feel MUCH better. One of the nice guys also told me that he works at a local auto body shop and said to bring my car in and ask for Jason and they'd help fix my back bumper. Nice people are so much better than mean people. It's a simplistic thing to say, but it's amazing how much talking with nice people (be they strangers or friends) helps negate all the things said by mean people.
I don't think I did anything for most of Sunday because I was still feeling crappy. I did my homework early, went to my hall meeting and then saw Inglourious Basterds with Boy and Sarah/Lauren. It was okay, but definitely not my favorite Quentin Tarantino film.
Today was a normal school day for the most part. Went to class and then took myself to see District 9 since today is my "get out early" day. I enjoyed it more than Inglourious Basterds, but I didn't start to REALLY like it until about halfway in. Definitely worth seeing if you haven't already.
Ran into Best Buy for kicks after the movie since they're right next to each other but didn't get anything. And then remembered that I needed to get a few groceries so I ran to Wal-Mart and THEN got home. And have been hanging out in my room since.
Looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow. I woke up with a scratchy throat and now I have a runny nose and sneezing, so I think I might be brewing a summer cold. I'll do my best to kill it with tea and orange juice, which usually works.
Well, time to wrap this up. It got long.
