No not a typo. During the Sol Olympics I was working on a playscheme in Peckham and we would turn on the TV every morning to see the overnight play. At that time breakfast TV was still new, broadcast from Camden Lock and presented by a rat, a green goddess and the theme tune agadoo! Just the sort of thing small children wanted to watch. One little girl came in and groaning said, "Oh no! Not Impalics again. The games have been the Impalics in my mind ever since.
AND NOW THEY'RE HERE! Yup shouty capitals as I've forgotten how to scroll. 7 years ago I was squeeing for England, literally as well as metaphorically. Now I'm so excited I'm almost sick. I stood for 2 hours today in 30 degrees of heat right in front of the stadium while I queued for my last few tickets. It felt like Florida, I do hope the weather holds after the summer we've had.
I have tickets for fencing at the excel on Saturday, Olympic Park tickets on Monday, (one of the things you could get as a resident of Newham,)tickets for the whole family to see basketball and athletics next week and today I got some para-Olympic tickets for goal ball and the Squiggle - oops, I mean the Orbit.
While I was in the Westfield Centre I saw Olympic badge after Olympic badge, from New Zealand coaches, to official Chinese delegations, from signs for the Australian Team's rallying point to the Nigerian basketball team in full kit, you can just sit in the sun and watch the world go by.
I had to laugh when they keep giving me zone 1-9 travel cards with my tickets. I live in the same zone as the stadium and I have no idea where zone 9 is - I thought it only went up to 6! Still as I watch the lights playing over the stadium from my bedroom window and listen to the buzz of the helicopters from the temporary police fortress they've put up 100 yards from my front door, I have to admit, I'm buzzing too.
The world is in Stratford - squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
