I'd like to recommend a book to you.
It's a collection of short stories written by Neil Gaiman, and they're some of the eeriest, most compelling bits of literature I've read in a very long time. He has the same slanted view of the reflections of reality possessed by Roald Dahl, and he's one of the few who writes endings that don't end with fireworks and kissing.
