f.y.i.

so i told my friend katie how i was making serious progress on my late 80's and early 90's mix series. i am thinking it will be a 12 disc set by the time i am done. few people will want any part of it, but those who do will love it passionately.

i played her some songs that would be making the cut for sure, including "toy soldiers" by martika. katie tells me it sounds familiar. then she says eminem samples it in his new single "like toy soldiers."

it was one of my favorite songs when i was a kid, and while eminem does some pretty impressive shit sometimes, i am afraid to even hear this.

so far, i am thinking
how dare he?
sampling one of my childhood favorites.

perhaps once i hear it i will be glad he revived it?

i suggest everyone goes and gives the original "toy soldiers" a listen. it is a true example of 80's pop brilliance. i used to have a tape of the video i watched over and over. martika had short black hair. i thought she was awesome. i'll send it to you over aim if you have trouble finding it...or you can hold out for the completion of my 82-95 megamix box set.

step by step
heart to heart
left right left
we all fall down
like toy soldiers
