Today, Marcus and I watched the Japanese version of "The Grudge" entitled "Ju-On," and let me tell you, that was interseting! It's really funny to see what the Japanese culture thinks is scary compared to what the American culture thinks is scary. The make-up and and acting was pretty bad (not to mention we saw the dubbed version), but It was an entertaining experience. There's this seen with an old man and he makes fun of the girl and plays peek-a-boo with nothing, and it was hilarious. Now I really want to see "Ringu" (the Japanese version of "The Ring"). I was reading an article that talked aboout the differences in Japanese and American horror and it made a lot of sense. Our movies here are more about slasher killers and physco paths, but a lot Japanese folk lore is based on ghosts and spirits, so what scares them more would be a movie about a ghost that haunts a house, rather than a killer who stalks people. knowing myself, I feel that ghosts are a hell of a lot scarier than killers! "The Grudge" scared me more than "Saw" just becasue I live near a graveyard and I can picture a killer spirit more than I can a maniac tying me up and making me cut off my legs!
Nights spent up after "The Grudge": 3
Nights spent up after "Saw": none
I used to watch that show 'Scariest Places on Earth" on ABC Family, and I just about pissed my pants everytime. I personally believe that there are ghosts and spirits, but I don't know if they can harm you. They certainlly can scare the hell out of you!!! This sounds stupid, but I want people to post and let me know which scares them more: Spirits/ghosts or Killers and Physcopaths!!!
