"Harris!"

I stopped sanding and turned around to see my boss.

"Yes sir?"

"Can I speak with you in my office for a minute."

For those of you who don't have a boss, that always sends a shiver down your spine. Is it good, is bad? You don't know.

I headed to his office and sat down. There was a gentelman in a suit sitting behind the desk. My boss stood next to him.

"Mr. Whitmore, this is the gentleman I was telling you about. Alexander Harris. He's the one who built the house you'll be moving into next week."

"The one on Cranson street," I asked. The man nodded. "I loved working on that house."

"I was wondering if you could show my family around the house. Tell us about your choices in some the designs."

"Well it was mostly the architect, I just followed the plans and just helped with some minor alterations."

"I just want to make sure its structurally sound and who better to show us aorund the place than the man who built it. Plus, I would like to talk to you about your job here," Mr. Whitmore said.

"Did I...do something wrong? Is this a way of you firing me?"

"No, nothing like that. Quite the contaray Xander," my boss replied. "Now, Mr. Whitmore here will take you to meet his family and see the house. He'll bring you back after."

So, I went and showed. The last room we saw was the kids room. They were already looking around the room.

"Now, this wasnt' in the plans, but we were under budget as it was and we did do it in a Vicotrian style. I added a little something I know I would have killed to have someting like it growing up. Mostly cause I watched too much Scooby Doo."

I went to the closet and showed them a small door and opened it. "Its a small dumbwaiter of sorts. Tried it myself when we built so its perfectly safe. Kids. If you please."

The raced inside and got inside. "Alright, now use the ropes as a pully to move yourself down." They did and I led the grownups downstairs to the living room.

I went to the grandfather clock that was near the wall by the front door and pulled it open and there stood the kids.

"That was so cool!"
"Can we do it again?!"

They raced upstairs to do it again. I closed the secret door with a chuckle. "Secret passage," I said with a grin. "Couldnt' help myself."

"That'll work everytime?"

"I checked, re-checked, and double checked everything to the screws on the pully. They are 100 precent safe."

Just as I said that the door swung open and it was the kids. "Thanks Mister!"

They ran to their parents. "Honey, why don't you take the kids out to the backyard. I need to talk to Mr. Harris for a moment."

She nodded. "Thank you Mr. Harris. You and your crew did a wonderful job. We love it."

Mr. Whitmore led me to the den where it was furnished as an office.

"I like your style Mr. Harris."

"Please, call me Xander."

"Xander," he said gesturing to a seat. I sat down as he sat down behind the desk.

"I don't know if you're aware but I'm a land developer. I recently purchased some land to start a new housing community. Winchester Acres. I talked to your boss, and I would like you to head up the construction crew that will build it. You'd work with the architect much like you did with my home. And build the first dozen or so homes. You'd start after the new year, and we hope that we can have them built in a year, year and half."

I nodded. "Yeah, with a nice sized crew working on each house shouldn't be hard to meet that deadline. Where were you thinking of building it?"

"Boston. I have a team examining the site as we speak."

"Boston?"

"Yes. Once we're clear the site isn't going to cause problems...we should be ready to start."

"Boston?"

"Is that a problem?"

"Well, uh...not in the strictist sense. I haven't relocated since I," I thought quick. "Unexpectedly arrived in Port Charles."

"And you have friends, family here. Probably a beautiful woman who can't bare being apart from you for too long."

"More of the friends thing. Though they're like family. But uh, no on the beautiful woman thing. We were kind of split up by unforeseen circumstances. Final nail in the coffin type thing," I said softly.

"Sorry to hear that, but maybe a change of scenery can do you some good."

"I don't know."

"Tell you what. This is what I'll do. I'll look for another contractor to take care of this. I'll let you decide what you want to do. Let you mull it over. Just get in touch with me before Christmas. And we'll see what we can do. Fair?"

I nodded. "Yes sir."

So, now I have a little over a month to make a decision. Take a job that will force me to move for a while, but no doubt earn me a lot of money. No clue what I'm going to do yet.

Really dont want to leave, but it could be a good opportunity for me. Might be able to make enough money to start my own buisness so I wouldn't have to leave on these kinds of trips. especially one that keeps me out of town for over a year.

Time to bring out the scales of justice.
