Thinking Day Greetings

Feb 22, 2008 00:07

Happy Thinking Day to all Guidey people - and if you are not a Guidey person & are wondering what I am on about, WAGGGS have lots of information about it here.

I shall be wearing my uniform, obviously, as we are taking the Brownies out for the day. I plan to see how many other Guidey people I can spot, be they in uniform or just wearing their promise badge.

For those of you who have somehow managed to miss what Guiding is all about from my assorted witterings, there is lots of information available on the G.UK website. In brief, modern Guiding is about providing a safe girl-only space where diversity and equality are promoted, using a programme that is relevant to girls and young women, and that provides them with a means of being heard.

In 2006 I wrote this post about Thinking Day. And for me, what I wrote still stands. Guiding may sometimes cause me stupid amounts of stress and woe, but that all pales to insignificance compared to the good things it's brought me - friends, the chance to try all kinds of new things, self-confidence, assorted skills for life... And at the moment, Guiding very much helps me keep hold of my sanity while I am going through this whole "being too ill to work" thing. So extra bonus points for that.

[And okay, I was not planning on being awake to post this now, but as I sadly am, I thought I might as well...]
